Nappier And Herbst In Spirited Contest

The most spirited statewide race to watch outside of governor is the state treasurer contest between Democratic incumbent Denise Nappier and Republican challenger Tim Herbst, the first selectman of Trumbull. The video above shows the testiness between the candidates after the debate. The video that follows is the debate on the Connecticut NBC affiliate that featured some crackling exchanges.

  1. Oh Denise! Doo-be-doo, I’m not in love with you!
Everyone knows the Teacher Retirement Fund is so poorly underfunded, and what has Denise done for our teachers’ retirement? NOTHING!!!
After 16 years in office, you would think she would articulate her job performance better than that.
Tim Herbst showed a lot of class.

  2. Am I the only one who thought Herbst came off as a bully toward the end of the video with the finger-pointing? I do not think this will be a close race, I see the sec of the state race being closer. Herbst did sound like he knows what he is talking about but just because you are a good talker does not mean you can do the job. On the flip side, Nappier has been in office too long. I will probably just vote for a green party candidate in this race.

  3. My $100 contribution to Tim Herbst is the BEST investment I’ve ever made. Bob Walsh–an Accountant–doesn’t get it. I feel sorry for anyone allowing Bob Walsh to look over their investments and finances.

    1. No Joel,
Once again, you do not get it. The state legislature is not giving the treasurer sufficient funds to invest. Plain and simple.
What is Timmy gonna do? Print money?
Have his former law firm lend them the $1,000,000 they received from the town of Trumbull?
Pull $10,000,000 out of a hat?
      All of the above?

      1. Bullshit, Bob. If that’s the case, WTF did he borrow $750,000,000 to plug the deficit? If a dumbbell like Nappier can pull $750,000,000 “out of a hat,” Tim Herbst will find a better solution. Mr. Accountant, during the last 16 years, tell us how many times Nappier called out the state legislature for failing to give her sufficient funds to misinvest? Hasn’t Bill Finch blamed the legislature in the past and you totally disagreed?

  4. The Trumbull Democrats are openly saying they’re voting for Herbst for treasurer … because that’s the only way they’ll ever win back the First Selectman job.

  5. Bob, why are you always concerned about who I support or who I am voting for? Why don’t you focus on who you are supporting and voting for?

I have previously stated on OIB I am not concerned about what party a candidate is affiliated with. I care about what their views are on the issues most important to me. On November 4th I will be casting votes for Independents, Democrats and Republicans.

Don’t worry about whether I am a “closet Republican” or not. I am an informed voter who supports candidates based on their previous voting record if they have one, their views or positions on a variety of topics, their level of knowledge and what they articulate as their vision should they be elected.

  6. Tim Herbst is an arrogant, combative egomaniac and has been ever since he was young. He is never open to compromise, it’s his way or no way. Trumbull is fed up with him, he needs to adjust his attitude and start thinking before he runs his mouth. Vote for him if you truly feel he’ll do better than Ms. Nappier, but watch out what you wish for.

  7. Well, I think Tim Herbst is a nice young man. I know his entire family. His parents used to live next door to me. His uncle is my banker. His aunt was a very good friend of my brother. I used to go to his grandparents’ church for the middle eastern food. My dear friend Mary Moran thinks he walks on water and is working her ass off to get him elected. In the old days when Mary was working her ass off on a campaign it was usually me who was working my ass off. I have personally only had the pleasure of meeting Tim Herbst twice. I do know he comes from good stock. I have never met Denise Nappier in person. I will be voting for Denise Nappier the Democrat.

        1. Jimfox, just because you don’t like the individual I am voting for is no reason for you to display hostility and be demeaning. You know I am extremely sensitive.

    1. Steve–if you only met him twice, then you don’t really know him. I’ve known him since he was a teenager. Not doubting his family are nice people, but he was very spoiled and as a result he thinks he’s a superior being. As far as Mary Moran thinking he walks on water, for the record, he thinks so too.
