More Than 2000 Vote Absentee

Coming down to the wire Town Clerk Alma Maya reports her office has received more than 2000 absentee ballots for Tuesday’s election with a few hundred more expected by tomorrow morning. In addition a steady stream of electors have cast absentee ballots in the Town Clerk’s office today saying they won’t be available to vote Tuesday. Connecticut law requires “excuse” ballot via absentee. Most states allow some form of early voting without excuse.

On Tuesday same-day balloting in the Town Clerk’s Office solely for president/vice president is available for folks who are not registered but can prove they are city residents.

According to the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Office, “State law permits a U.S. citizen who is at least 18 years old and is either a resident of a Connecticut town but not a registered voter or a former resident who has moved within 30 days before Election Day to another jurisdiction where the deadline for voter registration has passed to apply for and vote a presidential ballot.”

The absentee ballot haul should benefit the campaign organizations pushing a yes vote for Tuesday’s ballot question that if approved by voters would give Mayor Bill Finch the power to appoint school board members. The mayor’s operatives have been working absentee ballot votes. Still, presidential elections by far produce the highest city election turnout so plenty of election-day voters could still sway the charter question vote. In 2008 roughly 40,000 registered voters cast a ballot in Bridgeport.

  1. Lydia Martinez played a role in over 600 of the AB applications and ballots. All are “guaranteed” to have voted YES on question one. You don’t think the mayor would guarantee Murphy a victory without seeking a guarantee for himself, do you? Vote: NO, OBAMA, MCMAHON, IANNUZZI, HENNESSY, GROGINS (by a hair), MUSTO (by 1/10 of a hair), CHRISTINA AYALA (at least she’s pretty), ANDRES, FINCH (Only if you love them both). In 2014 VOTE for JOEL GONZALEZ for STATE REP. 130th district.

    1. Here’s an election violation for you. How many absentees were from the elderly at the senior centers? They vote absentee and then spend election day at the senior center playing bingo. Will Martha and Danny Roach’s wife get another raise?

  2. Paging Lennie Grimaldi. The Chevy ads on your blog are tilting over to the sides. Could you call Ray and ask him to fix this problem before they fall over and ruin my postings? It’s not like I have all the time in the world to re-write my comments. Thank you for your time.

  3. I have friends who did not register to vote who asked me if they can still register to vote. I told them no but you said they can register the same day and vote, am I correct?

    1. They don’t have to be registered to vote election day. If they can prove they are residents of Bridgeport they can vote at the Town Clerk’s office, 45 Lyon Terrace. They will be given a special presidential ballot to fill out. They can only cast a ballot in the presidential race. This applies to all communities in Connecticut.

  4. *** ABs are great ’cause I’ve been able to vote several times in the last week or so; And they work for my deceased family members a swell, of which I appreciate the thinking of you and don’t forget to vote political cards. (wink) ***
