Manafort Charged In Special Counsel Investigation

And now it starts. Paul Manafort, with deep roots in Connecticut, was charged Monday morning. Read indictment hereFrom The New York Times:

Paul Manafort and his former business associate were indicted on Monday on money laundering, tax and foreign lobbying charges, a significant escalation in a special counsel investigation that has cast a shadow over President Trump’s first year in office.

Mr. Manafort, the president’s former campaign chairman, and his longtime associate Rick Gates, surrendered to the FBI on Monday. The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, said Mr. Manafort laundered more than $18 million to buy properties and services.

  1. Behavior brought to attention of public began 12 or more years ago. Earning significant funds and failing to pay taxes due? Laundering money through foreign accounts used to provide wealth to purchase real estate, and then borrowing money from local banks more favorably to wash some history from the money? Lies to CPAs annually, failure to file required reports meant to reveal the type of behavior in which they were engaged? Living the life style of the rich and crooked?
There’s more that will be revealed in detail, and it must be said that the two men are “innocent until proven guilty”, however, the indictments handed up through the grand jury process is not haphazard. What effect will tax avoidance on this grand a scale plus money laundering for foreign entities by folks so involved in Republican Party activities have on our own year end Congressional attention to TAX REFORM?? Time will tell.

    1. Lets see what happens with Obama and the uranium he gave to Russia. Lets take a closer look at Hillary also. Its funny how everyone looks the other way when it comes to the Dems

      1. Andy, My good buddy. For years to maintain my securities license I had to spend my personal funds, my time and attention and take classes to continue to sell product and service clients. Over the past 15 years the subject of laundering funds has been a major subject. People in lots of financial fields had to have their eyes open to spot the movement of $10,000 or more into our banking, securities system, and here it seems that millions could be moved into real estate? Then either sold which would make the proceeds clean, or take a mortgage which proceeds were then clean, or improve the property with bills paid from offshore funds??? So many options I suppose and if Manafort had stayed with his Ukraine gig, does that mean he would never have been caught and brought to trial? Do we need more sheriffs? Or geiger counters, Andy? Time will tell.

          1. Robert Mueller is a registered Republican, Andy. He was appointed as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation by President George W. Bush, another Republican.

      2. According to the CT Mirror,

“Republicans… are calling for a probe into the 2010 deal approved by the Obama administration while Clinton was secretary of state that allowed a Russian nuclear energy agency to acquire a controlling stake in a Canadian-based company that had mining licenses for about 20 percent of U.S. uranium extraction capacity. The company cannot export the uranium.”

The “Obama and Hillary sold uranium to Russia” story is bullshit, Andy. So fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

  2. Apparently, someone robbed Peter to pay Paul and the F.B.I. thinks they can prove it all. They feel they can break the man down– something I don’t think can do–The (Man)is(a)(fort).

      1. Manafort’s bail was set at $10,000,000.00 with home confinement and electronic monitoring conditions. That alone ought to be enough to demonstrate the serverity of the charges against him, not all related to money laundering. There are charges of treason. He’s looking at a long stretch in Club Fed.

  3. C’mon Andy, this is about Trump’s boys and not the democrats, not President Barack Obama or Hillary. It’s simply about lying to the Fed’s and money laundering. 45 said early on in his campaign that he could shoot someone and his ignorant ass base wouldn’t believe he did it. Andy = ignorant ass base. Any questions?

    1. Thank you, Mr. Day.

That uranium story is total bullshit. This is about Paul Manafort, Richard Gates and a money laundering operation that moved $75,000,000.00 through offshore bank accounts controlled by Manafort who was Trump’s first choice for campaign manager.

Hillary Clinton is not in the Whitehouse, Donald Trump is. Because of his toxic personality and overt bigotry the GOP is going to lose the majority in the House and possibly the Senate. After that it is just a matter of time before he is impeached and removed from office. At least 62% of the American public has been praying for the day.

Stop watching Fox News Chnnl, Andy. The right wing propaganda is strangling up your mind.

      1. Yeah I will start watching MSNBC where I would get my news from 2 adulterers, a reporter fired from plagiarism and another contributor that has been let go because of sexual problems.

        1. Fox News Channel’s advertising rates have dropped more than 17% since former CEO Roger Ailes was exposed as a lecherous old man. Bill O’Reilly, angry old white man whose heroes include George Wallace, George Lincoln Rockwell and William K. Simmons, was exposed as a moral fraud. He was dropped by his book publisher and his talent agency.

A great source for news, eh?

        2. Bill O’Reilly, one of your FNC heroes, used to blame an overactive media on the sexual harrassment allegations against him. Lately he’s blamed God. So, not only is he a misogynistic xenophobe he also fancies himself a deity.

Of course he’s a credible source of truth, justice and the American way.

  4. Think about this, 45 has NEVER said a “negative” word about Russia’s president, Vladmir Putin speaks volumes about 45 but he can speak against the NFL, Obama, Hillary, John McCain, the mayor of San Juan Puerto Rico Carmen Yulin Cruz and Congresswoman Maxine Waters who are all citizens of the United States but Putin who was a KGB spy gets more respect from 45 than Americans.

  5. Ron, Is it possible that 45 could have done some traveling in Europe perhaps as a young son of a wealthy real estate father where his appetite for “beautiful women” was noted and became a way of luring him into an abbreviated but effective brainwashing on one or more of his beauty pageant trips? He was conditioned to be favorable to all things Russian, like the movie The Manchurian Candidate? Would that account for connecting many of the dots we observe today?
Any interest in seeing 45’s tax return where the possibility of that one year with the tax deduction loss claimed might have been arguable and therefore taxes should have been paid subsequently?? And how about his earnings from the Trump brand today? Where is the anger about that in TV land? Time will tell.

    1. JML, could be but if you look deep into Fred Trump past you will where 45 got his core believes and finances. Fred Trumps support of the KKK and racial discrimination cases for not renting to blacks. Fred’s construction company was a small family run company that was and not a big business run company. 45 didn’t have to answer to anyone at anytime but to daddy in his entire adult life. The religious right loves 45 even though he doesn’t go to church and he doesn’t believe in asking God for forgiveness for anything he’s wrong. Their issues are abortions, gays and guns so they’ll except 45 to get want, his believes in God is not a issue.

  6. “… The guilty plea by former adviser George Papadopoulos marked the first criminal case that cites interactions between Trump campaign associates and Russian intermediaries during the 2016 presidential campaign… with felony charges and possible prison sentences for key members of the Trump team including Manafort, who led the campaign during critical months, and Rick Gates, a campaign aide.”

  7. Derek, before you put this post out you should have checked with Andy because Eric Tucker and Chad Day of the Associated Press might be one of those liberal leaning, 2 adulterers, a reporter fired for plagiarism and another contributor that has been let go because of sexual problems Media Outlet.

I’d hate to think that a rag tag origination like the Associated Press would put out Fake News.

  8. “Fake news” is a phrase The Donald claims to have coined. His intellectually challenged supporters shout it whenever the mainstream news media publishes stories that shine the harsh light of reality on their pseudo hero.

Mr. Trump was recorded bragging of grabbing women by the genitals.

  9. Paul Manafort has been indicted not just on money laundering but for conspiracy against the United States, which is as big a charge as it sounds like.

  10. Paul Manafort held a high position in the Trump ’16 presidential campaign. He was much more than a volunteer. The charges against him and Rick Gates are the tip of the iceberg. All The Donald cares about is “they make me look bad…” Oh boo hoo hoo. He tweeted that the charges stem from activities predating Manafort’s involvement in the campaign, that there was “NO COLLUSION.”

Yadda-yadda-yadda. The next words to appear on his Twitter feed will be “fake news.”

  11. The charges against Paul Manafort were way before he was hired to run 45’s campaign and that shows what a piss poor 45 is selecting people to run his presidential campaign and to serve in his cabinet, #bad.

    1. Manafort and Gates were the setup; the punchline was the reelation that George Paoadolous had pled guilty and had been cooperating with Mueller’s investigation since July. Manafort’s bail was set at $10,000,000.00. That indicates the seriousness of the charges against him. He’s going to flip.

Orange Man is acting like a guilty party.
