Local Theatre At Its Best

The Bridgeport Theatre Company produces sweet shows at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre. Don’t miss Lend Me a Tenor this weekend. Ticket info below.

Bridgeport Theatre Company under the Artistic Direction of Eli Newsom continues its second season with the hilarious farce Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig, which runs March 16 – 25, for a total of 6 performances. All performances will take place at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill Street, Downtown Bridgeport. BTC operates “in residence” at DCT, and each company operates independently of the other, whilst sharing the same space.

It’s September 1934, and the Cleveland Grand Opera Company has invited the world famous tenor Tito Morelli to perform Othello, his greatest role, at the gala season opener. This madcap screwball comedy has one, two, three, four, five, yes, that’s five doors on the stage with a dizzying plot about Tito the ailing Italian tenor, his jealous wife, a sexy soprano, a scheming impresario and his mousy factotum with dreams of opera stardom.

It’s the classic farce situation–disaster; denial; recovery; complication; catastrophe–slamming doors and mistaken identities, the split-second collisions of purpose, and confusing double entendres. This adult farce has left audiences from Broadway to London’s West End teary-eyed with laughter. Lend Me a Tenor, a seven-time Tony Award nominee, deftly blends slapstick humor and zany situations with classical opera.

Lend Me a Tenor is presented with direction by Ricky Altamirano. The cast of eight from in and around Fairfield county includes: Sarah Giggar (Easton, CT), Khallid Graham (Bridgeport, CT), Karen Hanley (White Plains, NY), Gina Lariccia (Bridgeport, CT), P.J. Morelllo (Greenwich, CT), Maggie Pangrazio (Fairfield, CT), Kevin Pelkey (Beacon Falls, CT), and Tony Republicano (Bridgeport, CT).

Lend Me a Tenor will run Fridays & Saturdays March 23 & 24 at 8pm; and Sunday March 25 @ 5pm. Tickets are $23 for Adults and $18 for Student/Seniors (ID required) and are available ONLY at www.BridgeportTheatre.org or by calling 800.838.3006. Groups of 10+ enjoy a discount of 25%. BTC offers a concessions stand that includes snacks and a cash bar with beer, wine and soft drinks.

Bridgeport Theatre Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and was founded in May 2010 by a group of Connecticut-based performing artists. For additional information about Bridgeport Theatre Company and directions to the theatre, visit www.BridgeportTheatre.org.

  1. Lennie, I’ve had the great pleasure of attending all the “Kids’ Stage” shows (I missed “pinkalisios” it was sold out the entire run, but it’s coming back in the fall). I urge parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts etc. to give the Downtown Cabaret a try. Four shows on the weekends.
