Lizards Invade State Capitol

It was Bridgeport Day in Hartford promoting all things the Park City to the General Assembly including Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. Bridgeport State House members Chris Rosario, Andre Baker, Charlie Stallworth and Ezequiel Santiago lend a helping hand. Hmmm, lizards and lawmakers!

  1. I attended Bridgeport Day wearing my “Vote NO to Charter $chools” t-shirt.

Ed Gomes gave a rousing speech about how he didn’t care who was lobbying to give 250 children $12 million dollars. He went on to state we have 22,000 students we have to fight for. He never mentioned the words “charter schools,” but everyone knew what he was talking about. He received rousing applause.

Of course the usual charter school sell-outs were there. Reverend McCullough, Northeast Charter Schools, Ex$ell Bridgeport, the former CONNCAN lobbyist who is the director for the sell-out black ministers charter school organization, and even Jorge Cabrera was there. He must have thought it was Hamden Day. He and Mayor Finch exchanged hugs and he stood right next to Fran Rabinowitz laughing and joking.

  2. Andres Ayala gave a over-the-top introduction and at one point I thought he was going to claim Mayor Finch could walk on water. I could hear several people mumbling around me calling him a “liar” and he was an “idiot.”

Ed Gomes’ face during the introduction was so funny. When Finch came to the microphone, several of us just left the room. I stopped to tell Ed’s aide if you are going to allow Finch to speak at an event, you have to at least supply barf bags like the airlines do.

  3. I want to thank all the elected officials who were depicted in both of the above videos representing Bridgeport. Of course, Beardsley Zoo, the only Zoo in the state of CT and run by Gregg Dancho is a gem and a great tourist attraction. I thought our elected officials did a great job–all of them and Hennessy representing our city helping veterans, was great. We need to do more for our veterans in Bridgeport. It sounds like it was a very constructive day in Hartford and I am certain Mayor Finch was very proud.

I am not sure why there was no video of Gomes and Ayala. But it seems Maria P was very impressed by Ed Gomes’ speech. As one of Mary-Jane Foster’s staunchest supporters, Ed Gomes may sway Maria P to support a woman of integrity. Maybe not. Today was obviously a great day for Mayor Finch and the city of Bridgeport. We should all be proud.

    1. Steve, there is a specific thing OIB readers can do this Monday when they attend the Memorial Day Parade in Fairfield. Attendees have the opportunity to donate non-perishable food or make cash donations that are collected by Rotary members who walk the parade route. Beneficiaries are veterans here in Bridgeport at Home for the Brave, etc. A truck accompanies the Rotary volunteers with veterans receiving the food gifts. Response has grown to this effort over the past four years. With your assistance perhaps the total will beat last year’s receipts of over $4,000 plus food. Time will tell.

      1. That is a great idea and a great cause. If I attend the parade in Fairfield I will come with non-perishables in hand. That is a great cause for sure.
