Gomes To Host Fundraiser During Key Reporting Period For Mayoral Candidates

Democratic mayoral candidate John Gomes will host a fundraiser March 9 at the Vasco Da Gama Center on James Street in advance of the first quarter fundraising report due in April, a significant timeline to determine sturdy financial strength for all the candidates.

Gomes bolted out of the gate in December raising $100,000 in just four weeks of fundraising. As expected, Mayor Joe Ganim is leading in fundraising and will likely crack $300,000 in total fundraising by quarter’s end.

This is a key reporting period for State Senator Marilyn Moore and former Finch administration official Lamond Daniels both of whom formed candidate committees in January. Why? The early money is the easy money to raise from a collection of friends, relatives, political supporters and anti-incumbent interests. An early stumble makes fundraising traction difficult.

Gomes is campaigning actively around the city, populating his Facebook page with appearances and frequent videos, see one above, sharing his thoughts on the direction of the city.
