Ganim: Masking Required Inside Public Buildings And Businesses

Mayor Joe Ganim on Tuesday issued an executive order requiring use of face coverings inside municipal buildings and businesses. See ganimexecutiveorder.

Masks are not required while eating or drinking.

News release:

Effective August 11th, 2021, Mayor Ganim requires the use of masks or protective face coverings in accordance with the Center for Communicable Diseases (CDC) and other federal and/or State of Connecticut guidelines when attending public indoor venues. Indoor venues includes any establishment where patron attend inside such as restaurants, grocery stores, theaters, gyms, and/or retailers. In addition, the use of masks in public parks is also recommended especially in instances of gatherings.

— Required to wear masks in indoor settings. Including municipal buildings, and businesses.
— Recommended to wear masks at parks, and settings where social distancing is not possible.

Health officials state that face covering should have 2 or more layers of protection covering the nose and mouth in order to be effective.

The most effective way to protect against COVID is getting vaccinated. In addition, requiring all residents and visitors to wear face masks or face coverings in public venues is another line of defense to prevent contracting the COVID virus or spreading the virus to other persons.

Mayor Ganim stated, “We can’t afford to take a step back to closures or capacity mandates–but we can use better judgement and make an easy adjustment to our own behaviors by simply getting vaccinated, and return to putting on a mask. The masks will help in any situation for those that are vaccinated, not vaccinated, individuals that are vulnerable, and specially to help stop this virus from spreading to a child that is not eligible for the vaccine. Bridgeport did this together last year under more uncertain times–we can do this again to protect each other and stop the spread of this virus in our city.”

“To protect yourself from COVID-19 it’s important to implement all preventative measures. Get vaccinated, wear your mask, wash your hands, social distance, and get tested. New studies have shown us that regardless of vaccination status the Delta variant is highly transmissible, so all should adhere to masking and social distancing protocol. Protect yourself and your community with all measures provided to maintain health,” stated Acting Health Director Ebony Jackson-Shaheed.

  1. He seemed to be away for a week before realizing he could make a splash.
How can anybody take this seriously?
But he doesn’t care. He lives in Easton so what does he are about what happens in Bridgeport.

  2. Why don’t you make yourself really useful and demand that the Common Council meet in public?
Oh, silly me. That would mean you would have to make yourself available and you couldn’t make that happen.

  3. Once again Mayor Ganim is leading from behind playing following the leader like New Haven mayor, Justin Elicker who made the decision for mask on August 6th a day after Governor Ned Lamont made his order on mask, New Haven’s order started today.

Ganim’s states, Recommended to wear masks at parks, and settings where social distancing is not possible. So what about concerts at the Hatford Healthcare Amphitheater, the seating there is less than 6 feet apart and up front they arm to arm.

  4. Once Justin Eliker addresses the problem along with the former Bridgeport Health Director Maritza Bond then Joe will adjust it.
Come on Ron. Joe is only acting mayor until we can get someone qualified to do the job.

  5. How’s thinking, I’m not hearing all of these complaints in Easton. Maybe I should just “move” here temporarily and run Bridgeport from up here.
Hell, Dan Shamas runs Bridgeport from Trumbull. What’s the difference?

Over at the city’s just-opened live music amphitheater along the harbor, developer Howard Saffan said that audience members seated outside can go maskless, but upon entering the enclosed areas will have to put on masks.

“Some staff have been masked up,” Saffan said. “Obviously, post-Mayor Ganim’s directive, certainly more staff will be masked up.”

What the hell is Howard Saffan talking about, just look at these pictures from the first concert, no mask anywhere or social distancing while being seated and at those in the front they are elbow to elbow, it looks like a super spreader to me. I wonder what the Hartford Healthcare has to say about it’s naming rights on the amphitheater and the new mask order?
