Fire And Ice At Webster Bank Arena Hockey Benefit

A Connecticut firefighters hockey team will face off against a squad of firefighters from Westchester County, New York on December 26, 4:30 p.m. prior to the start of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers match against the Connecticut Whale, 7:30 p.m. at the Webster Bank Arena. The firefighters game will raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Associations and rededicate a banner for Bridgeport Lieutenant Steven Velasquez who with firefighter Michel Baik died fighting a house fire on Elmwood Avenue in 2011.

According to firefighter Joe Lachioma, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers agreed to permanently hang a banner honoring Velasquez in the rafters of the Webster Bank Arena. A ceremony will take place before the game begins. The Connecticut firefighters team is comprised of Bridgeport firefighters and firefighters from other departments in Connecticut.

Nationwide, firefighters raise millions of dollars for MDA and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to MDA. Bridgeport’s newest firefighters will conduct a fill-the-boot drive during both hockey games.

The $20 ticket price covers both the benefit hockey match as well as the Sound Tigers face off. For tix and additional info contact john.reis@harboryardse.com, 203-345-4848.
