A Superior Court judge has set a hearing Monday morning in response to City Council incumbents Aidee Nieves’ and Maria Valle’s complaint charging their East Side Democratic primary opponents, Ismael Sanchez and Isaac Dickerson, violated state law by submitting fraudulent and forged signature petition sheets to qualify for a September primary.
See court complaint here
The council incumbents had previously filed a complaint with the State Elections Enforcement Commission alleging attorney Dennis Bradley, scheduled for trial in December to face federal election charges for his 2018 run for state senate, notarized the petition sheets in question, “certifying that (Sanchez) personally witnessed each and every signature that was contained on those petition pages.”
The council incumbents also maintain that former Democratic Town Committee member Tony Barr and Maria Hernandez who was recently arrested on state charges for alleged absentee ballot fraud during her 2023 support of John Gomes for mayor, were among campaign operatives that circulated most of the petition sheets.
Local election officials had certified that Sanchez and Dickerson provided sufficient signatures – five percent of electors in the district – to qualify for a primary.
Nieves, City Council president, and her long-running partner Valle, did some follow-up work with district voters that “signed affidavits alleging that Ismael Sanchez was not the circulator of many of these petition sheets and did not personally witness their signature.”
Sanchez and Dickerson have been certified for the September ballot so the only way they can be removed, at this point, is voluntarily or by state court action.
The State Elections Enforcement Commission has civil authority over Connecticut elections to mete out fines and refer complaints for potential state criminal probe, but no juice to knock candidates off the ballot.

And the beat goes on in Bpt…After years and years of looking the other way at petition sheets & Absentee ballots, candidates just can’t stop the fraud now..Wanda has almost 100 felonies pending for absentee fraud, and last week she was charged again, doing the same thing, fraud & the Bpt DTC,go hand in hand..Could you imagine what’s going on that’s not caught??
IDK, Port, there isn’t a R in sight. According the Ds manifesto Y’all should be in a state of Kumbaya.
Moses are you going to make a run for your old seat. Normal I wouldn’t make such a suggestion with regards to Rev. I candy. 🙂 But being a victim of those cameras on the school buses that he championed for I find myself rooting for the Moses of the Port. 🙂
To be fair, I was more victim and victimize by the engrained corruptness that is Port politics the emanate out of City Hall. Though it was met with silence.
This is how engrain corruption is in Port politics. Bradley is was a politics beast with the words. Gaston would have never even came close if Bradley didn’t run afoul. He would have met any politic quota criteria/support/funding he needed, considering all those face in G2’s headquarters on his comeback bid.
There was no need to do what he did that kicked off his campaigned.
So what does that say? It says Port political game is so corrupted, so engrained in how the Port operates that is like they feel they are not doing anything wrong/cheating/stealing etc.. SMH.
IDK People considering D party runs the Port political game it should be in a state of Kumbaya. I mean Gaston has to through a political party identify line at DC. 🙂
try to play nice people. Good luck Moses of the Port. 🙂
# kumbaya, damn you internets. 🙂
