Connecticut Employers And Community Leaders Launch Initiative To Make Healthcare More Affordable

News release from Connecticut Healthcare Cost Initiative:

Connecticut employers, workers, and community organizations today announced the launch of the Connecticut Healthcare Cost Initiative, a new statewide coalition uniting stakeholders around one goal: lowering healthcare costs without sacrificing quality, access, or choice.

Healthcare is becoming more expensive for Connecticut families and employers every year. Between 2008 and 2022, family premiums in Connecticut rose approximately 4.5% annually on average, faster than incomes. Residents feel the impact at the pharmacy counter, the doctor’s office, and in their monthly budgets.

The coalition believes policies coming out of Hartford are too often part of the problem. Misguided policies and burdensome mandates raise the cost of coverage for working families, small businesses, and seniors while policymakers point fingers and ignore the true cost drivers.

“Healthcare costs are one of the greatest threats to Connecticut’s economic competitiveness and the financial security of working families,” said Chris DiPentima, president and CEO of CBIA. “Employers and their employees cannot afford another round of policies that add costs without improving care. We need lawmakers to confront the true cost drivers and advance solutions that lower premiums and out-of-pocket expenses while protecting the quality, access, and choice Connecticut patients deserve.”

For too long, the healthcare debate has been stuck in the same loop: point fingers, score political points, and pursue solutions that are worse than the problems they are meant to address. Connecticut cannot keep doubling down on decisions that make coverage more expensive.

The Connecticut Healthcare Cost Initiative will show the numbers, highlight the policies driving costs higher, and push for reforms that actually make care more affordable. Through public education, data-backed resources, and Connecticut voices, the coalition will give residents, employers, policymakers, and the news media clear information about what is increasing healthcare costs and what can be done to lower them.

“Small businesses are already operating under extraordinary financial pressure, and the relentless rise in healthcare costs is forcing owners to make painful choices about hiring, wages, expansion, and employee benefits,” said Deborah A. Caviness, founder and president of the Southern Connecticut Black Chamber of Commerce. “For minority-owned businesses and the communities they serve, these pressures can be particularly devastating. Connecticut cannot afford policies that drive healthcare costs even higher and put small businesses at greater risk. We are joining this initiative because we need real solutions that lower costs, expand access, and strengthen—not undermine—the small businesses that are vital to our communities and our state’s economy.”

The coalition will focus on reforms that lower premiums and out-of-pocket costs without compromising care. It will also evaluate policy proposals according to a straightforward standard: whether they make healthcare more affordable for Connecticut families and employers or add new costs to the system.

“Healthcare is too important for us to remain divided,” the coalition said in its launch statement. “Connecticut families, employers, workers, and community organizations must come together behind solutions that lower costs, not make them worse.”

Over the coming weeks, the Connecticut Healthcare Cost Initiative will release additional information about healthcare cost trends, explain the impact of state policies and mandates, and outline practical reforms that can make care more affordable.

  1. IDK, people it been “forget give them father for they know not what they do.” But you kinda know.

Meanwhile. Joe got 5 likes on his nasty, angry, disingenuous rant. Must have hit a few nerves, to say the least.

Yet, John’s here trying to build a better government participation voting bloc via CCC engagement, and all he gets is Joe and jelly doughnuts. 🙂

  2. You hit the nail on the head, “Abusive Authority”

Fair enough, but first, a word from our sponsors. For shits and Google.

When I read your comment, “Two weeks ago, I introduced…” My brain 🧠 processed: let me introduce myself. My name is Humpty. Pronounced with an ‘Umpty’ 🤣

Perhaps, instead of a drumroll when you introduce yourself at a CC meeting. You should embrace an electronic synthesizer. BAM! 🙂

    Drum roll, please.

  3. John, is it fair to question where those two-word simplifications that many of your readers (supporters) and critics will understand as “abusive authority” as it pertain to those who have the power and authority to make laws or ordinances, oversee them, and find ways to enforce good and necessary laws to improve the quality of life for citizens when that coded side is at play?

Will those good and necessary laws to improve be fair, or will they tend to favor one side over another to seek advantage when some one intorduce there coded side?

As the power and authority enact such rules and laws. Do you suspect any unjust laws will be introduce be rolled out with a fanfare drum roll or hidden, camouflaged to make it more palatable?

  4. John, as you get into that podcast with Brian and Dan. It touches on AI, science, religion, and consciousness.

Do you think there are levels of understanding based on our Medulla Oblongata? As it pertains to your supporters and critics 🤣

I mean, I have read some mean, nasty, vile, abusive participation expressions on the best ESL go-to site for Port’s political discourse to be informed. Will not many drum rolls I have seen a few Thank You on desplay. 🤣

  5. Consciousness: local or non-local.

I guess you could break this podcast debate on Science and religion into a few SIMPLE questions from my conscious perspective. John, what’s your perspective? Chime in, and we will cross ideas. 🙂

Why do science and religion clash, and what is the real clash in its essence?

Is consciousness local, individualized, the scientific take? Or non-local, the religious perspective. The hand of God, creator, or designer.

    Brian’s curiosities questions.

    What is the nature timer?

Is quantum mechanics an effective theory that works on one scale with a deeper description?

A unified theory that combines quantum mechanics and the theory of relativity?

    The origin of the universe?

  6. John, where are you? There’s more to life than the CCC. 🙂

What about your physicizing and philosophizing neighbors?

While Time will tell, time is relative to consciousness. 🙂

Clash is human nature; religion is relative to it. Just like the bombs and weapons scientists make. For better or worse, JS

The weaponization of religion in human nature has been broken down to a science: God is Good Vs God is Great.

    Fabulous work, people. 🤣

What say you? Bill and Ted. 🙂

I mean, Port politics have been a clash well before I got here. In the best ESL class yet, I’m the bad guy because I use the word “retard” 🤣

It’s so nasty; it’ll throw its own under the bus for that second bite of the political apple. One gets thrown under the bus 🚍 while the other gets on a bus. Streets just being streets.

I heard financial influence. aka bribes cause amnesia 🙂

  7. I will say this: While the state allows Bradley to attend his brother’s wedding ceremony in another humanoid nation outside of America’s jurisdiction. It is fair to question Bradley’s brother’s political marriage to Maria. The person who torpedoed his political career— the loss of his law licence, too— is why he has to get permission from the state to attend his wedding, as he is facing sentencing. WOW.

Port’s political shit show is like a daytime soap opera

  8. Interesting, to say the least. Considering your question

Whether quantum mechanics an effective theory that works on one scale with a deeper description? Let’s for the sake of artument Quantum mechanics is the recipe of the universe’s existence. Understand the reverence of the mechanics of the recipe as a reachable understanding. However, the recipe and the chef are two very different things.

Can AI computing be developed to self aware/conscious at self-preservation outside of its programming? If you will, self awareness/consciousness with computing power/programing. Can you build a Frankenstein, perhaps on some level? But make no mistake, you would need a Frankenstein to make a Frankenstein. I would think.

As you ponder, AI computing power has reached Star Trek level. Let’s boldly go where no scientist has gone before. Let’s not sugarcoat it: “manipulate,” please.

While you use the term ‘alien,”’ how would you fundamentally describe our existence if an entity was able to turn matter into energy, and back to matter?

  10. How would it change the fundamental understanding of the universe, our existence, if transporting were achieved? Converting matter into energy and back again. If so, would you need subject matter to begin with to convert into energy and back in the “manipulation”

Or can you just convert energy into matter outright, from scratch, with your own recipe? What level would that “alien” be elevated to? To not only “manipulate matter into energy and back but to create matter, manipulate time, create time for that matter. What role would our conscience play in it, “manipulation” JS

I wonder if AI can discern the codedness of the “disingenuousness” words? John?

  12. Final point,

Now I understand Port’s long game in politics.

    https://www.facebook.com/reel/2006283260276564

Build something no AI computing power can replace. I mean, AI would conceive of teaming up Mark, Denis brother, and Maria on an election campaign for his probate election did. Considering Maria topedoed, Denis political career, that lead to a felony conviction, lost of his law license, Perhaps some jail, time.

AI be like, Really human. 🤣

  13. On the bright side, a felony corruption conviction, loss of law licence, jail time. hasn’t stopped political ambitions in Port politics. 🤣

To be fair to Mark’s and Maria’s political marriage. While I have no doubt short-lived, with a quick divorce. I mean, that’s how Maria, politically. I mean, check her stance on that. 🙂

Perhaps Mark’s relationship with his brother is Moses-style.

At any rate, Port elected official’s /candidates. Billboards, people, billboards. 🙂

  14. John, best of luck on your CCC initiative to increase the Port-informed voting bloc. 🙂

While time will tell, they are far from building a robot to do what Port politics does. 🙂 If possible, I mean, I don’t think AI could have ever conceived of an arranged marriage between Mark and Maria. 🤣

AI be like, we got some work ahead ourselves if we’re going to catch up to the humans.

But they are working on it. 🙂

    Try to play nice. Poeple.

  15. The US President wishes for fame and fortune and to find folks who uncritically provide him with attention.
An OIB responder, filing 28 separate entries, unrelated to the OIB newsworthy article, which is causing concerns for community residents, has nothing to say about healthcare.
OIB seems to have no concerns about what drives readers to fail to offer comments on his choice of subjects. But in earlier times he was more attentive to the subject matter, the words and phrases used, and disrespectful comments presented. Is this progress? I do not see the hand of the editor as careful or active. How say anyone else who cares about Bridgeport? Time will tell.

    1. John, John, John, have you learned anything from our friendship, 🤣

Perhaps, but you frame it as him — Trump, assuming the US President you are referring to — didn’t seek fame and fortune, and seeking folks who uncritically provide him with attention, assuming money too.🤣

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcmwoJXw3gw

Concern, perhaps, in some form, some way. However, I believe I have made my stance on the healthcare insurance system. 🙂

  16. To be fair, John. 🙂

“OIB seems to have no concerns about what drives readers to fail to offer comments on his choice of subjects. But in earlier times, he was more attentive to the subject matter, the words and phrases used, and disrespectful comments presented. Is this progress?”

That was a nicely worded, disrespectful way to diss our Host/OIB? IMO 🙂

However, I read many openly blunt, disrespectful words by many OIB reader/contibuters hiding behind pseudonyms from back in the day. 🙂

Not you, JML. Your comments were/are always “pleasant to the ears” 🙂

“I do not see the hand of the editor as careful or active. How say anyone else not cares about Bridgeport?

Of course you don’t see the hand; how could you? Perhaps Doesn’t mean the concern is not there. Lennie? Or could you? 🤣
