City Councilwoman Maria Pereira was escorted out of City Council Chambers by police Thursday night for threatening a school bus driver during a public hearing before a City Council committee to revisit an ordinance that restricts large commercial vehicles from parking on city streets carrying a $250 fine.
Pereira was arrested for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
The school bus drivers seek a carve out from the heavy commercial vehicles impacting quality of life on city streets.
Pereira promises a lawsuit if the council votes for an exemption for bus drivers, something Eneida Martinez vehemently supports, even slipping into a rubber bus at the last council meeting to hammer home her point.
The public hearing took place before the Ordinance Committee that Martinez co chairs.
A thunderous applause erupted from a packed council chambers when Pereira left the chambers.

That being said, I am 110% sure this parking issue for the bus drivers has zero to do with emergency capacity for our bus driver role.
For that matter it not really about safety or property value, but a series of blight and quality-of-life issues for the students in the Port. It’s not about getting something to eat or needing to take a bathroom break.
Shit, it’s not even about the shift drivers who pick up and drop off the Port’s public student body house between 9am and 2:30 pm.
Make no mistake about it.
For the most part, it’s about convenience (Martinze) VS inconvenience (Maria) and the freak show that is Port politics. 🙂
In a sense. If it were just about BOE transportation. 5 ½ hours of lag time between shifts and the need for buses to utilize parking on the streets, by no means should it be allowed for convenience. It’s not like they don’t have a lot to park the bus for 5 ½ hours between shifts.
That being said. It’s what is going on behind the scenes during that time that needs to be addressed as a needed reasonable accommodation during those 5 ½ hours layoff.
I would bet any bus parked on the street that has a pickup or drop route between those Port’s BBOE transportation hours is doing so outside of BBOE contract of the service it hired the bus company for. Meaning the need to access their bus is not for BBOE services. I mean, how many class trips does the Port school system have on a daily basis?
So it is fair to say this private company is doing private business outside BBOE service. Perhaps private schools. Who knows? Well, somebody knows, and considering the lack of CC members present to this public hearing, they don’t care to ask or acknowledge.
That being said, while that may be true, it does not automate a vote on any needed reasonable accommodation for a bus to park on city streets.
Any real, actual, genuine conversation regarding a really needed, reasonable accommodation should be taken a bit more seriously by our CC members who are elected to work on behalf of the Port and in the best interest of the Port and all its residents.
So on that, I ask what is more concerning in the Port’s shit show freak show. Maria being asked to leave this hearing or the Elected CC members who didn’t even bother to show up. 🙂

No, buses should be allowed to park on a city street for more than 2 ½ hours straight. (No loophole by just moving the port. We know how corrupt the role is in the minds of the Port body 🙂
That is fair and reasonable for the city, residents, and drivers who do have a shift, for whatever reason, entity. Beyond the 2 ½ house, that reasonable accommodation is nothing more than a convenience for you at the cost of the Port and the people who have to endure your bus blight on a daily basis. I mean, it is not like your employer doesn’t have a lot for you to park in if you live in the Port. We are talking bout a 15-minute drive at best.
Residents should have a number to call to address buses parked in violation of the 2 1/2-hour accommodation measure for drivers who put their 15-minute drive time above the Port; it’s residents JS
