City Firefighter Killed In Car Crash

Off-duty city firefighter Jimmie Jones, an eight-year veteran of the department, was killed Saturday afternoon after his car hit a truck and then a utility pole on Bishop Avenue near Connecticut Avenue, according to Mayor Joe Ganim’s spokesman Av Harris.

Others were injured in the accident, including Jones’ son.

Jones, 34, had been assigned to truck and ladder 6 on Central Avenue, according to Harris. “Ironically, it was some of Jones’ truck mates on ladder 6 who ended up extricating him from his vehicle today and performed CPR in a valiant but unsuccessful attempt to save his life,” says Harris. Jones’ father is a retired Bridgeport firefighter. If you’re interested in learning more about CPR and first aid certification, you can check it out here for additional information.
