Bridge Jumper Identified As Bridgeport Man

Associated Press report:

New York State Police have released the identity of the man who committed suicide last week by jumping off a bridge over the Hudson River.

Troopers say the body recovered from the river near the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge last weekend was that of 34-year-old Frank Rende of Bridgeport, Conn.

Police say Rende jumped off the north side of the westbound span of the bridge shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday. Troopers were called to the bridge for a report of an abandoned vehicle.

State police say a pedestrian on the bridge spotted the body floating in the middle of the river Sunday morning. Firefighters from Newburgh pulled the body from the water.

The bridge carries Interstate 84 over the river and links Orange and Dutchess counties.
