Break-in At Torres’ HQ Harborview Market, Shots Fired Outside Ganim’s East End Headquarters

Republican mayoral candidate Rick Torres wonders if there’s a correlation between break-ins, vandalism and fires almost every time he’s a candidate for public office. His Harboview Market in Black Rock, which also serves as his campaign headquarters was broken into early Thursday morning, as thieves targeted the market cash register.

Torres says, in an interview with Steve Krauchick from Doing It Local, the neighborhood also suffered other burglaries in the area.

Meanwhile the CT Post reports shots were fired outside Democratic nominee Joe Ganim’s East End headquarters on Stratford Avenue around noon Thursday.

Ganim, who visited the scene, said he did not think it involved the campaign.

“Best we can figure there’s been some back and forth in the area, younger kids and random bullets,” he said.

  1. Not to make light of the situation but …
Only In Bridgeport can you end an article about a drive-by shooting by saying it happens all the time here, “I’m going to get a haircut.”

    1. Had the same sense you did when I read that final paragraph. In the course of a day, week, month or year, what Tom Coble was expressing was the sound of bullets flying in the neighborhood, breaking auto glass, and alerting folks to get down is a temporary but frequent-enough phenomenon so normal activities can be assumed right away. Gunfire happens more frequently than haircuts? Time will tell.

Rick is not the only one.

  3. Given all the shooting going on recently it would be easy for a disgruntled Democrat’s effort at neighborhood revitalization to be mistaken for gang activity.

  4. If any of you read that article, saw the name Tom Coble, and didn’t immediately decide to vote for ANYBODY other than the city’s most notorious thief, then there maybe really is no hope for this place. Thieves running with thieves.
