Black And Hispanic State Police Hires Don’t Mirror Connecticut

From Ana Radelat, CT Mirror:

Nearly 30 years ago Connecticut’s state police signed a legally binding agreement to boost the number of black and Hispanic troopers to 10 percent of the force so it would mirror the proportion of minorities in Connecticut’s population.

The state police met that goal decades ago, but there hasn’t been much change since, though minorities now represent about a quarter of the state’s population.

As of mid-February, 5 percent of the 1,124 state police sworn personnel were black and 5 percent were Hispanic. There were 57 blacks and 57 Hispanics on the force. According to the latest U.S. Census figures, 11.5 percent of Connecticut’s population is black and 15 percent is Hispanic.

  1. Nobody should be surprised by those numbers, everything starts at the top with whomever the governor is. The same type of results are happening right here in Bridgeport with the entry level firefighters exam, no women and very few blacks and the results will be the same with the recent firefighter exam that was given the other week. These problems have been given to each governor and each Bridgeport mayor plus Bridgeport is getting federal funding to hire and to give these exams and the numbers do not even come anywhere near the makeup of the state and Bridgeport. Malloy and Ganim have done nothing to make changes but when election time comes they will be all over the black churches here in Bridgeport.

  2. Ron, what’s the saying? Fool me one shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. If minority groups are always being played by the Democrat leadership in Bridgeport or in the State, either stop supporting them and boycott their elections or vote Republican. Bridgeport has a one-party system and based on your views it’s not working on behalf of the minority groups. If you have the power of the voting bloc, you have to leverage it with Republicans. If Democrats feel threatened by a mass exodus of minority voting blocs going to Republicans, they will have to conform or lose. You can only really blame on how you choose to leverage you voting blocs. I would start with boycotting the Democrat election before you vote Republican. It’s the same result. Not sure the country’s ready for the 180 political conversion. It’s only been 50 years since the voting rights act. We still have 50 more years to go. PS Day this is where you chime in about race. Not when a third-chancer who’s appealing conviction of fraud for not checking the box has a criminal record.

    1. Robert, you are under a gross misconception to think I need you to tell me when I can or should speak about race or any other subject. Stay in your lane.

  3. The problem starts at the top and that’s Governor Malloy. As the Mayor of Stamford from 2000 to 2008 Stamford hired 85 firefighters and 4 were black, 5 Latino and 76 white males. As you can see nothing has changed with Malloy with respect to hiring people of color other than his address. It defies credulity that blacks never looked or even asked about his hiring practices when he came to Bridgeport begging for votes.

  4. Robert, this is an answer I posted for some lady who like you has a problem with my interjection of race. So you’re tired of all this race BS, then are you saying race is no longer an issue in America and Bridgeport? If that’s what you are saying then my suggestion to you is you are being misled, hoodwinked and bamboozled. There are studies, that come from everywhere, from major universities to private research institutions to civil rights organizations, all saying the same thing: race is still very much prevalent in American society, whether we talk about it or not. So since race differences never went away, can we also assume racism never went away? Of course we can. Thus, the need for a renewed race dialogue. America is not colorblind. It’s so blinded by color it just can’t see racism.

America has developed colorblindness and public policy initiatives were “race neutral” and any discussion about race, race differences, and most critically, racism were now persona non grata in social circles and viewed as politically incorrect in the public domain. Nobody wanted to talked about race anymore, and opinion leaders went to great lengths to convince us race no longer mattered. Robert, you live in your world because you could never survive in mine.

  5. Day, what lane is mine the white line? Yes there’s racism I never said there wasn’t. Can black people be racist? You blamed white people for what a black person did to another black person. That seems racist to me. From what I read Ford did Gomes wrong, who are both black and you blamed a white person for Ford’s actions. If the black voters were responsible for Ganim’s win and Ganim is neglecting the black community, don’t they bear some responsibility for his actions and outcome? You blamed white voters for not voting black people into office. This post was a response to your claim Newton’s not getting a second chance because he’s black and didn’t win a contract where he failed to disclose his criminal record. He’s out of jail pending the outcome of his appeal on conviction for fraud. Christ’s sake. There might be more to this than race. I’m not telling you when you can interject race, it’s all the time. I think it devalues your activism on behave of the black community. Just my opinion.

  6. Robert, I see you conveniently missed this post about Ed and Ralph. I have genuine love for my people and I don’t have a problem taking my people to task when I feel they are a detriment to the community and our people. What say you, Robert? I guess you don’t know me as well as you thought.

    Donald Day // Jun 16, 2016 at 11:53 am

To hell with the snafu, the question is Ralph, why would you support anyone other than Ed Gomes? What in hell were you given or offered for your support for Dennis or is getting on the right side of white politicians what fuels your zest? I’ve known Ralph for decades and I love him like a Play Cousin, but Ralph has in the past done ONLY what’s in the best interest for Ralph and he will support anyone as long as he can get a job for a friend, a woman or some other political leverage. This isn’t anything new as everyone who knows Ralph knows he’s in it for Ralph. He’s like most every other black politician who has ever represented the 139th in the last 30 years without exception, WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? What troubles me most is the electorate of the 139th knows this about him and the other black politicians yet they continue to vote for these slaves. These black politicians will tell you they learned the Game from the white politicians, but they fail to understand even though the white politician will sell out their communities for the DTC, they are at least bringing something back to their communities that is substantial, but our black politicians aren’t bringing shit back to our communities, just taking.

This isn’t the first time these SLAVES have let Ed down, like when he was being hospitalized you SLAVES let them cut up his district for the benefit of Anthony Musto and not one of you SLAVES said a damned thing. I defy Ralph to tell you one damned thing he has done for the 139th in the last decade to uplift the lives of the residents of this district to make it a better place to live, to work and to raise a family. Ernie, you profess to love the East End, born and raised there and the people of the East End love you to death, so why do you sit idly by and let this happen without so much as a whimper? How can you profess to love something and allow someone to use and abuse the thing you profess to love? Is it just me or does that sound like bullshit to you as well? The fact is, we are our Brothers’ keepers, well at least we used to be, but for blacks in Bridgeport to thrive we need our elected officials to love us as much as they love white politicians.

    1. Don, we are playing the race card when we talked about race and it involves someone white but when we get on our own people everybody gets silent.

      1. White people can’t say much it would seem racist. Day talked about “This isn’t the first time these SLAVES have let Ed down, like when he was being hospitalized you SLAVES let them cut up his district for the benefit of Anthony Musto and not one of you SLAVES said a damned thing.” Basically Day’s saying it’s not Ford’s actions because he’s a slave and doing what his white master is telling him. By the way didn’t a black woman beat Musto? What about the Holy Grail of civil rights for blacks? Who’s supporting Moore over the white man (“The Kennedys”)? You’re not really speaking out about black representatives who are selling out their community. You’re insinuating they’re slaves and they’re not responsible for their actions. It’s Ford’s slave master who’s making him not support Ed. It’s more racist than righteous. I Think. It could just be my colorblindness though.

  7. I didn’t read this one, but I’m sure you said something about Ford being a pawn of white politicians. It’s the last statement. “We need Elected officials to love us as much as they love white politician.” This is the colorblindness in you. The word slave is pure racist in nature that conjures up the US’s horrible past and you need to elect a black official to love you as they love themselves. Do you find it odd Finch made claims Ganim was a racist and defended the KKK? Just saying. Good luck in electing your representatives.

  8. Why would you suggest I am colorblind when in reality I see color and I feel a necessity to speak to it when I do? Why the mention of slaves is now racist in your narrow mind is very baffling to me, a black man. Are you now the arbiter of what’s racist?

I’m supposed to be upset about a client of Joe Ganim who was a member of the KKK and not mad about Finch implementing a policy that removed blacks’ right to be Bridgeport firefighters and police officers? Which is going to change to lives of a black person living in Bridgeport, making over $100,000 a year in the BFD and BPD or some KKK member? Stay in your lane.

  9. 1. Slavery was racist. Calling someone a slave is racist in my lane.
    2. The racist part is blaming a white slavemaster making Ford sell out Ed.
    3. Are you advocating on behalf of blacks who are making $100,000? if Yes I’m in the wrong lane. I thought we were talking poor blacks. My bad.
    4. I’m not telling you not to speak out. I don’t know whom you’re speaking to or whom you want to reach. As a whiteish person basically you’re saying the reason the black communities are being underserved is because whites are using black slaves to undermine their own community.
    5. if you read my first comment I stated how I think the black community will achieve progress using the power of the vote. You said they are the reason Ganim won, leverage it to gain real progress.

    1. Robert Teixeira, please stay in your lane because you don’t know what you are talking about. Why did the late singer Prince write the word “Slave” on his face? It’s obvious you are not black or have an understanding of blacks. Stay in your lane.

  10. Robert, calling someone a slave is racist to you as a whiteish person, as a black person which you are not or as a white person which you are not?

21st century slavery is the various methods our modern enslavement system uses to control and manipulate society, and I see how the system uses money, the media, politics and religion to provide a state of fear and ignorance that keeps us under its control. Mental slavery is a state of mind where one becomes trapped by misinformation about self and the world. So someone can claim to be conscious, they can read all the books, they can recycle the popular rhetoric, but still be unable to balance real-world priorities and self-interest.

My suggestion to you would be to ask a black person or ask a white person if being called a slave is racist because you as a whiteish person don’t know.

  11. Robert Teixeira, maybe this will help you and others to get a better understanding.

    Gentlemen:

I greet you here on the bank of the James River in the year of our lord, one thousand seven hundred and twelve. First, I shall thank you, the gentlemen of the colony of Virginia, for bringing me here. I am here to help you solve some of your problems with slaves. Your invitation reached me in my modest plantation in the West Indies where I have experimented with some of the newest and still the oldest method for control of slaves. Ancient Rome would envy us if my program is implemented. As our boat sailed south on the James River, named for our illustrious KING JAMES, whose BIBLE we CHERISH, I saw enough to know that our problem is not unique. While Rome used cords or wood as crosses for standing human bodies along the old highways in great numbers, you are here using the tree and the rope on occasion.

I caught the whiff of a dead slave hanging from a tree a couple of miles back. You are losing valuable stock by hangings, you are having uprisings, slaves are running away, your crops are sometimes left in the fields too long for maximum profit, you suffer occasional fires, your animals are killed, Gentleman, … You know what your problems are; I do not need to elaborate. I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them.

In my bag, I have a fool proof method for controlling your slaves. I guarantee everyone of you that if installed it will control the slaves for at least three hundred years. My method is simple, any member of your family or any OVERSEER can use it.

I have outlined a number of differences among the slaves, and I take these differences and make them bigger. I use FEAR, DISTRUST, and ENVY for control purposes. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies, and it will work throughout the SOUTH. Take this simple little list of differences and think about them. On the top of my list is “AGE” but it is only there because it starts with an “A”; The second is”COLOR” or shade; there is INTELLIGENCE, SIZE, SEX, SIZE OF PLANTATION, ATTITUDE of owner, whether the slaves live in the valley, on a hill, east or west, north, south, have fine or coarse hair, or is tall or short. Now that you have a list of differences, I shall give you an outline of action–but before that, I shall assure you that DISTRUST IS STRONGER THAN TRUST, AND ENVY IS STRONGER THAN ADULATION, RESPECT OR ADMIRATION.

The black slave, after receiving this indoctrination, shall carry on and will become self-refueling and self-generating for hundreds of years, maybe thousands.

Don’t forget you must pitch the old black VS. the young black males, and the young black male against the old black male. You must use the dark skinned slaves VS. the light skin slaves. You must use the female VS the male, and the male VS. the female. You must always have your servants and OVERSEERS distrust all blacks, but it is necessary that your slaves trust and depend on us.

Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control, use them. Never miss an opportunity. My plan is guaranteed, and the good thing about this plan is that if used intensely for one year the slave will remain perpetually distrustful.
