He was known as “The Judge,” and for nearly 30 years, G. Sarsfield Ford was the voice of justice in the Bridgeport state courts.
But that voice was quelled Sunday when Ford died after a long illness. He was 79.
“The people of the state of Connecticut, and especially this area, owe a debt of gratitude to Judge Ford,” said Robert J. Devlin Jr., the state’s chief administrative judge for criminal matters. “Because of his great ability, he was consistently assigned the most serious and difficult cases on the docket.”

I was in a jury pool for one of his trials. He explained the case to us but before we knew it the defense lawyer made a plea bargain and it was dismissed. He was a Bridgeport legend.
Great man, Judge Ford. Good article by Tepfer, a man of integrity, old school and down to earth. RIP Sars, you were one of the best Irishmen!

I testified in Judge Ford’s courtroom for two solid days. When my testimony was completed I breathed a sigh of relieve and started to get up and leave my seat when Judge Ford said just a minute, I have a few questions. I was on the stand for two more hours answering his intelligent questions on fire dynamics.
Many years later I was at the courthouse for a jury pool, when he saw me he remembered who I was. I could not believe it. He was a good man. Rest in peace.
