What’s On The Agenda For The Monday Night Fights?

In addition to the regular Monday agenda, the City Council is expected to fill the vacancy created by Jazmarie Melendez’s resignation in the Upper East Side 138th District. The leading candidate is ex council member Samia Suliman, but she may have some company on the vote, according to social media skinny.

Historically, the council fills vacancies based on the recommendation of the town committee district, but is not bound by it. Other names may be introduced for consideration.

Last month council member Maria Pereira, the other 138th District representative, was censured by a unanimous vote of the legislative body for inflammatory actions and comments against city officials. The sanctions remove her from committee assignments and limits verbal input so her lone platform is addressing the council during the public speaking portion of the meeting.

Pereira is listed among the eight speakers signed up for comments starting at 6:30 p.m. so it could get a little noisy.
