Unlike some political careers, this inaugural drone flight did not crash land.
Mayor Joe Ganim on Tuesday was joined by public safety officials and City Council members to demonstrate the new law enforcement Flock drone program, utilized by thousands of other municipalities, and explain how it works.
A demonstration atop the Margaret Morton Government Center followed the drone flying among seagulls and the highest building peaks in the central business district.
No word if seagulls were hitting on the drone.
The drone program is awaiting approval from the City Council for activation.

What are the odds the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) will use drones in the next mayoral primary and election? I’m not overly concerned–lots of trees on Mountain Grove Cemetery.
Happy New Year Lennie & readers:
I also shared this on Facebook, but I wanted to note it here as well.
Before this takes off, a brief clarification based on last evening’s City Council meeting may be helpful. While preliminary information was shared today and funding identified, the City Council has not yet voted to approve the drone program, and the proposal is expected to go to committee.
In the meantime, residents who are interested may wish to look at how similar programs operate in other municipalities, such as Castle Rock, Everett, and Chula Vista. Law enforcement agencies in Colorado and California have used drones for several years, and Castle Rock has more recently partnered with Flock’s Drone-as-First-Responder program.
Just what the Dr. ordered-Prescription on hold.
Hey, Dr. I heard Joe Ganim is testing a TeletransPorter to get officers to the crime scene in the Speedy of light. Any truth to this?
Hi Joel,
I wouldn’t know about that one 🙂
