Chief Roderick Porter On Tuesday led a walking detail on Madison Avenue in real time during his Porter’s Corner Facebook live program, a lower North End neighborhood featuring strong Brazilian and Portuguese communities with loads of tasty food outlets.
The chief notes that the evening shifts starting at 3 p.m. during the heaviest neighborhood activity will receive the most emphasis to provide security, engagement and building of relationships.
Porter stressed residents and business owners seeing familiar police faces buoys law enforcement results.
Stratford Avenue and East Main Street are the first walking patrol areas with Madison, Wood Avenue on the West Side and Black Rock on the horizon, according to the chief.
New police hires have paved the way to introduce regular walking patrols that have been dormant for many years.
