  1. The dumbest YouTube video of the year. Did anyone learn anything so far?

By simply empowering the mayor to appoint the City and Town Clerk, City business will be more efficient? Why stop here, let the mayor appoint the BOE members.

If the Democratic Town Committee endorses qualified and capable persons who demonstrate their commitment to the job and responsibility, that would be a good starting point. All of a sudden there are some issues of concern with the City Sheriffs? What are the specific issues and concerns? Sounds and looks like Mario Testa and Joe Ganim are targeting the Demicratic Town Committee members and district leaders for rejection of Mario’s attempt to reduce the number of DTC members. Changing Party Rules Policy and Procedures as well as election rules with a charter amendment. More power for the King.

It’s time for the Town Clerk to run for mayor.

    1. Joel,
When did you last read the current Charter last approved in 1993? And then proceeded to read the new Charter as updated and revised in 2025?
Didn’t City and Town Clerk elections solve an old POLITICAL problem? Have you heard honest to goodness information about better governance from either Town Clerk or City Clerk? I learned that increased activity in favor of full time “work” to receive full time pay from current and past part-time expectations was proposed. But when it came to Charter Review only the City Clerk appeared. Why did the Town Clerk say nothing, write nothing about the subject, nor appear at public hearings held by Charter Review or City Council and speak up?
Joel, concerning the other POLITICAL issue raised at the final moment causing the Charter new version to be divided in two sections, although all of the words at one moment had been approved by the City Council. Sheriffs, some of the folks who serve legal papers in person, for a fee paid frequently by law firms not the City. At the moment they are a vestigial reminder that we once had a COUNTY government decades ago. Today no county governance to recruit, train, administer, and supervise SHERIFFS. There are State Marshalls who proceed through an education and training, and are administered and supervised by the State in order to do the same type of service for the public at large.
Why are there Sheriffs on our ballot when the position in not part of CIVIL SERVICE, when there are no standards of supervision in the City, but the City is expected to bear the defense of actions that place the City as a responsible party for these persons. It is POLITICAL purely. Look at the public commentary all coming from PARTY Politicians!! They are following the money purely.
City Sheriffs?? What Department do they report to? Where are they located on the City website? Time will tell.

      1. Go ask some one else your dumb questions? It’s been about 3 or 4 weeks since I asked you to tells us how much will it cost to implement the ethics department? Just to issue a $250 fine IF at all possible.

Here the reason you don’t have an answer: As a Joe Ganim GATE KEEPER, John Marshall Lee is not allowed to ask or answer such valid and legitimate question.

      2. You show your ignorance the more you try to justify or explain yourself.

“Didn’t City and Town Clerk elections solve an old POLITICAL problem? Have you heard honest to goodness information about better governance from either Town Clerk or City Clerk?”

Solving Political problems is found nowhere in the duties and responsibilities of the City and Town Clerk. You are the most served Bridgeport resident by the City Clerks Office. I would not be surprised if one day I visit the City Clerks Office and find your picture hanging on the wall.

I’m still waiting to hear, “honest to goodness information about better governance,” from YOU. Nothing but stupid questions!

Here an example of a stupid question: Why are there Sheriffs on our ballot when the position in not part of CIVIL SERVICE?

Why are there Councilmembers on the ballot when the position is not part of Civil Service?

  2. It would be better if the City eliminated the City and Town Clerks positions and hand over the duties, responsibility and a RAISE to:
Assistant Town Clerk Christina Resto and Assistant City Clerk Frances Ortiz whom are the pros running the respective offices for years.

Absolutely NO need for mayoral appointment. Any and all mayoral appointees are GATE KEEPERS. Why is the mayor so bent on placing GATE KEEPERS in the Town and City Clerks Departments of all places?

  3. Ahh NO!… it’s bad enough Mario decides who he wants to run for office, now they want to bypass the voting process and just let him appoint who he wants??..What’s next?,having Mario appoint the town council too?

  4. Harvey,
While I often agree with your observations, I believe that the Charter Commission agrees that there is not a long term need for TWO CLERK POSITIONS serving a variety of duties PART TIME and without office hours published at the offices nor making public statements.
Evidently there was some movement to making them PAY INCREASES LIKE FULL TIME SERVICE but since they perform no practical public service that was overlooked by the City Council. The work is done by very competent assistants, deputies, or whatever Civil Service terms the appropriate name for the lead person getting the work done on time and competently. These are Civil Service positions at the top of the CLERK WORKFORCE and they get certified as they progress in their professional acheivements. Bridgeport is fortunate to have each of the individuals serving long term responsibly these days.
Notice that the final date for retiring this UNNECESSARY positions is more than five years into the future.
Perhaps they can speak up for themselves in that time and alert taxpayers whether they visit either office of the value they provide by their service? Time will tell.
