The environmental advocacy organization Groundwork Bridgeport is a key city partner to transform a vacant lot that was the site of an old train station that burned in 1979 into a new waterfront park Downtown.
From Groundwork Bridgeport:
Join us Saturday, April 20th and next Saturday, April 27th from 10am-2pm to help finalize preparations of the Sliver by the River site for our Block pARTy celebration on Saturday, May 4th!
Sliver by the River is currently a 3.6-acre vacant lot we are working to redevelop into a waterfront, public green space. Be a part of this community-driven initiative at Sliver by the River, as we strive to transform this space into a community park for all to enjoy! On this stewardship day, we will be picking up remaining litter around the site, cleaning up the fenceline for our Fence Art project, and painting foursquare and hopscotch (if weather allows).
The approximate address is 710 Water Street or 4 Stratford Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
No previous experience is required, and all necessary equipment will be provided. Wear long pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and closed-toed shoes to protect against contact with plants and tools. Dress in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a hat/visor and a reusable water bottle.

This sliver is also the site of the Ferryboat Junction that sailed out of town under the cover of the night in a James Demetrakis deal.
I recall the news conference at the site during the Paoletta mayoral years after the boat, Miss New York, vanished. Paoletta convinced Demetrakis to attend. He arrived by helicopter instead of ferry boat.
