Vallas Continues Community Conversation Sessions

From Superintendent of School Paul Vallas:

Superintendent Vallas is pleased to announce that on Thursday, October 24th, the Blackham Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) will co-host a “State of the Schools” Community Conversation. The fourth in a series of ongoing presentations, parents and community members are invited to join the Superintendent to learn more about the progress Bridgeport Public Schools have made over the past 18 months and provide input on future priorities and goals. The first three events were each attended by between 50 and 100 parents and community members and discussed communication strategies, concerns regarding bullying and questions about the new Common Core curriculum standards.

“I am grateful for the participation of parents and the community in the “State of the Schools” events,” said Superintendent Vallas. “The forums have given me an opportunity to share how we financially stabilized the district and how this impacts our ability to make crucial academic investments, such as new textbooks and improved technology in classrooms. Parent feedback is key to moving the district forward academically while responsive to community priorities.”

The “State of the Schools” presentation will be followed by a brief question and answer period and an opportunity to meet with key district staff, including Chief Academic Officer Amy Marshall, Chief Turnaround Officer Mary Beth Stickley, Chief of Staff Lissette Colón, Safety, Security and Climate Special Assistant Shively Willingham and Human Resources Executive Director Kathleen Jaeger.

Please join the Blackham PAC and Superintendent Vallas this Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 5:30pm at Blackham School, located at 425 Thorme Street in Bridgeport.

Parents and others who will be unable to attend are encouraged to send their ideas or concerns to communications@bridgeportedu.net. Bassick High School will host a Community Conversation the following week on Tuesday, October 29th at 5:30.
