I wonder if Mayor Bill Finch will attend the UB commencement? Nah.
The University of Bridgeport will host its 101st Commencement at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7 the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Nearly 1,470 degrees will be conferred to the Class of 2011, who this year will “go green” with eco-friendly caps and gowns made from 100 percent consumer-recycled plastic bottles.
Alumna Marian L Heard ’63, founding chairman and CEO of the Points of Light Institute, will deliver the Commencement address on May 7 and will receive an honorary Doctorate of Human Letters. Ms. Heard created the Points of Light Institute to engage millions of volunteers nationwide to support former President George H.W. Bush’s campaign of civic engagement.
Dorothea E. Brennan, a member of the Connecticut Board of Governors of Higher Education, will be a guest speaker.
Jose Ricardo Aguilar will deliver the senior class Commencement address.
A total of 929 candidates for graduate degrees and 537 candidates for undergraduate degrees will walk at Commencement.
*** CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL 1470, UB CLASS OF 2011 ***
THANK YOU FOR PICKING A BPT SCHOOL GEM TO CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION TOWARDS THE FUTURE. *** GOOD LUCK ***
The University of Bridgeport has come so far in the last decade as to become a vital component in the mix of Bridgeport. Today’s economy in Bridgeport gets a major injection of money spent in Bridgeport from UB sources.
The Gomes administration would welcome UB as a neighbor and working partner.
They are a neighbor whether Finch and company want them or not. Be careful with the working partner stuff.
It would be surprising if Birdie attended. MJF is an executive staff member, after all.
Why would anyone think Finch should attend the UB graduation ceremonies? It’s a school for crying out loud!!! Talk about a fish out of water.
It would be interesting to know how many found local jobs and how many will be leaving their families & friends for a better opportunities elsewhere. Maybe OIB could do an exit poll at the train & bus stations and get back to us with the results. It is sad we celebrate such a joyous occasion knowing we cannot offer them a future in a dying City. Once again I ask you, pray for BPT, vote for change.
