Leaders of the Bridgeport Republican Town Committee are urging taxpayers to join a rally on the steps of City Hall on Monday (today), tax day, at 5:30 p.m. prior to the regularly scheduled City Council meeting at 7. Local GOP leaders including Vice Chair Cisco “The Cisco Kid” Borres have issued eblasts, news releases, statements and even a paid advertisement in the Connecticut Post encouraging rally attendance to oppose Mayor Bill Finch’s budget proposal before the all-Democratic City Council.
Borres wrote in an eblast:
“Please make every effort to attend. Your attendance will go a long way to sending a message to our City Council members. People against the proposed tax increase from all political parties and persuasions are welcome to join us.
Bridgeport taxpayers have been abused by an administration that does not seem to have a shred of regard for them. Coming on the heels of a tax increase only one year ago, a proclamation in the national media that Bridgeport is the worst city in the country to retire in, a report from H&R Block stating that Bridgeporters are the highest taxed people in the country, and a failed display of basic city services during the Blizzard of 2013 another tax increases is simply unacceptable.
We must convince the City Council that they must vote down ANY tax increase that would further pound an already overburdened tax base. Bridgeport simply cannot sustain the course that it is currently on.”
*** In a city that has the highest taxes in America along with lacking poor city services, it’s a wonder how there’s not a public demonstration every City Council meeting night. With a city A rating and an increasing $180 million dollar debt and responsibilities since 2007 in comparison with lacking incoming revenue and assets, it’s just a matter of time before the ability to continue borrowing more to keep up with the overall spending comes to an end! Assuming incoming revenue from other sources (State&Feds) or economic development (Steel Point) is relying on “monopoly money” at best. Yet with all this and more, there will probably only be about 100 citizens at best on the footsteps of City Hall on Monday (“sorry to say”) in a city of over 147,000 people! *** Hope I’m wrong. ***
Mr. Borres and the GOP were silent when the current powers that be were chasing industries out of this city in favor of high-end residential development. Where was the GOP when local companies were relocating to Stratford, Shelton, Monroe and Milford costing the city needed tax revenues? Could it be they answer to the same real estate developers as the current administration?
Is that the best you can do? It’s total garbage.
*** OFF TOPIC: What’s the latest news with Rep. Jack Hennessy’s state bill to prevent city employees from being on the City Council? It seems news of it came and went like a weekend winter snowstorm, no? Those legislators who did not support it should be recognized and not forgotten by city voters when their run for re-election comes around. *** VOTE NO ON THE CITY BUDGET AND MIL RATE HIKE ***
It is reported it will not reach the floor until there is adequate support from our legislative team from Bridgeport. Clemons, Santiago, Christina Ayala, Stallworth. The self-righteous disingenuous Andres Ayala came out officially against it. This guy has too much on the line with his girlfriend getting oodles of State and Federal funding for her housing projects in Bridgeport. He’s been doing this for years but claims there “ain’t nobody in here but us chickens.”
Other than Grogins and Hennessy what has the rest of the delegation done? Nothing! Nada! Zip point shit. Clemons is still waiting for the ferry to Pleasure Beach. Stallworth is taking up space. Ayala & Santiago likewise.
Andres Ayala is the biggest ass kisser of this entire group. This zero has not had an original thought in 20 years. I am sure when he retires from politics he can get a job as a bobblehead doll.
Well, somehow it moved on to the Office of Legislative Research and Office of Fiscal Analysis, on Friday April 12. Go figure.
