Senator Gaston: Legislative Delegation Working Together For Bridgeport

From State Senator Herron Gaston:

In a time when politics too often feels defined by division, Bridgeport has a different story to tell. Our delegation in Hartford—across roles, backgrounds, and perspectives—has shown what is possible when public service is guided by collaboration and a shared commitment to community.

This past legislative session, the entire Bridgeport delegation worked as a team to move our city forward. While disagreements are a natural part of the democratic process, our legislators remained focused on what matters most: delivering real results for the people of Bridgeport.

One of the most important areas of progress this year was securing continued investment in our schools and students. The delegation worked together to protect and strengthen education funding, expand access to early childhood programs, and support resources that help students succeed both inside and outside the classroom. These efforts recognize a simple truth—when we invest in our children, we invest in the future of Bridgeport.

The delegation also made meaningful strides on infrastructure and quality-of-life priorities. From advocating for improvements to local transportation and roads, to supporting environmental cleanup and resilience efforts, Bridgeport’s lawmakers ensured our city remained front and center in statewide conversations about building safer, healthier communities.

Housing and economic opportunity were also key areas of focus. This year, the delegation backed initiatives to expand affordable housing, encourage responsible development, and strengthen programs that help working families stay in Bridgeport and build stability. These efforts are about more than buildings—they are about preserving neighborhoods, creating jobs, and ensuring longtime residents can share in the city’s growth.

Public safety and community well-being rounded out a strong agenda. The delegation supported funding and policy changes that help municipalities address violence prevention, improve mental health access, and strengthen support for first responders. By taking a comprehensive approach, they reinforced the idea that safe communities are built through both enforcement and prevention.

What stands out most is not just what was accomplished, but how it was accomplished. Bridgeport’s delegation consistently showed up for one another, coordinated their efforts, and spoke with a unified voice when it mattered most. That kind of teamwork sends a powerful message: Bridgeport is serious about progress, and we are strongest when we advocate together.

Finally, I want to thank the residents of Bridgeport for the faith you place in me to serve as your state senator. It is an honor to represent our city in Hartford, and I do not take that responsibility lightly. Your trust is what drives me to work collaboratively with my colleagues, listen closely to our community, and fight every day for a Bridgeport that is stronger, more equitable, and full of opportunity for all.
