School Board Candidates Lead November Election, BOE Incumbents Traber, Sokolovic Occupy Two Lines

Rob Traber

As municipal elections go in Bridgeport, this is a drowsy off-cycle, but one octane race to watch is for Board of Education with incumbents Rob Traber and Joe Sokolovic deftly occupying two lines for the November 4 general election, Working Families Party and Independent Party providing them a sturdy chance to run ahead of the Republicans to occupy the two available minor-party slots.

Joe Sokolovic

Democrats Jennifer Perez, Jowanne Burks-Jennings and Lamond Daniels are locks by the sheer Democratic registration advantage. The fight is between Traber, Joe-So and the Republicans, incumbent Akisha Cassemere and David Gelin.

Traber, a Democrat, was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy. Joe-So won a seat four years ago on the WFP line. Willie Medina won a seat two years ago on the Independent line, so Republicans have lost ground the past decade to other minor-party political entities when for decades they generally occupied the three (of nine) minor-party slots.

Why would anyone vote against proven knowledge and commitment? If the State is going to dictate their orders to the Bridgeport BOE, the last thing voters should do is elect flunkies to the BOE.
I stated Board of Education–not Spring Board for higher office.
