Rosario And Santiago Hail Borinqueneers Highway

News release from State House members Chris Rosario and Ezequiel Santiago:

State Representatives Christopher Rosario (D-Bridgeport) and Ezequiel Santiago (D-Bridgeport) are pleased to announce that a portion of Route 127 will be designated the “65th U.S. Infantry Regiment, ‘The Borinqueneers’ Memorial Highway.” The Borinqueneers were a Puerto Rican Army Regiment who served during World War One, World War Two, and the Korean War.

“I am so grateful the legislature voted in favor of this initiative. Designating a portion of Route 127 in honor of this brave group does not even begin to repay them for their selfless service, but it is certainly a start,” said Rep. Rosario.

The designated section of the highway will extend from Route 127, East Main Street, in Bridgeport, from the intersection of Route 130 traveling in a northerly direction to the intersection of Route 1.

“As a Puerto Rican seeing this measure pass through the legislature holds special significance to me. I am thankful we have found a way to honor these brave soldiers in Bridgeport and look forward to driving down The Borinqueneers Memorial Highway,” said Rep. Santiago.

This measure was adopted as part of Senate Bill 1502, commonly known as the budget implementer bill. The bill passed both legislative chambers and now heads to Governor Dannel Malloy’s desk for final approval before becoming law.
