Days after a violent car crash, former State Senator Ed Gomes remains in critical condition in Bridgeport Hospital suffering from head injuries.
CT Post reporter Brian Lockhart provides the latest:
Gomes was still hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday following emergency surgery three days earlier, according to niece Latoya Johnson-Aranjo who has been receiving updates from his son.
“His blood pressure was going down, so they did a procedure on him,” Johnson-Aranjo said. “He is only responding to pain. He is not responding to any commands. It’s just a waiting game … If they’re telling you to move your hands and you can’t move them, that’s something in the brain.”
Johnson-Aranjo said because of coronavirus-related visiting restrictions, “no one has seen him. Everything (medical updates) is over the phone.”

Thank you Latoya Johnson-Aranjo for the update. Those of us that know, love and respect Ed appreciate your updates and ask that they continue.
One of Ed’s favorite says was “I don’t get heart attacks, I just give ‘em.”
That’s the way he is.
And you would not want to be on the receiving end of that look he showed at the Judiciary Committee meeting pictured above.
We’re all pulling for you Ed. Keep on fighting.
I’ve been praying for my precious friend every day, every hour. I make sure I get up early enough to say a Rosary for him. We talked the day before the accident and were making plans for lunch. We met in 1983, and it was he, with his support, who gave me the opportunity to become President of the City Council. We just met that year, he could have chosen anyone he wanted because he had the votes, and he chose me. It didn’t end there, for the decades that followed we became close friends, I say from the bottom of my heart I love the man Senator Ed is and always will. He protected me in the early years, always supported me, and I him. Please God, bless Ed and let those of us who respect, admire and love him have him back to the great man he is.
Lennie, thank you for the updates. You keep it real. I know Ed will do it again. To all the people who know Ed, give just a few words of support and hope. Ed cant appreciate it now, but just imagine the comfort it would bring to his family.
