Police Add Metal Detector In Headquarters, Increase Two-Person Patrol Cars To Beef Up Security

Bridgeport police headquarters now has metal detector.

Concerned by the assassination of two New York City police officers and other outbreaks of violence following court decisions in Ferguson and New York, Bridgeport police officials have enhanced security, installing a metal detector at the entrance of police headquarters Downtown and upping two-officer patrol cars as an added protective measure.

When you enter police headquarters on Congress Street Downtown to pay a parking ticket (I have experience in that area), you’re now greeted by a metal detector, a safety measure implemented by police in the wake of national occurrences and threats upon law enforcement agencies. So whether a parking ticket, visit to front desk or Detective Bureau, you must pass through a metal detector, just as you would at a state or federal courthouse.

The city has also beefed up two-officer patrol cars as well for its three shifts, particularly the second shift. Increased back-up calls are also part of the police security measures. Police officials have authorized overtime to enhance security measures.

The following statement appeared on the Police Department Facebook page:

Our deepest sympathies to our brother officers who lost their lives protecting their communities in New York City and Tarpon Springs, Florida and to our brother and sister officers across the country who grieve together with us. We come to work every day with two goals: to protect the kids and families in the neighborhoods that we serve and to return home safely to our own. This week, three officers who dedicated their lives to their communities were murdered. To all who wear the badge, stay safe and be vigilant.

  1. Those concerned with the diversity and hiring of bridgeport residents for the police dept should be pleased to know only 70 applicants have come forward for the next test, which cannot take place until 150 applications have been received. So for those who say Bridgeport residents don’t get a fair chance, where are you now???
