Incumbent school board member Joe Sokolovic, who won reelection running on the Connecticut Working Families Party line four years ago, failed to receive enough signature support to challenge the three Democratic Town Committee endorsed candidates for Board of Education in a September primary, ex mayoral candidate Lamond Daniels, current school board chair Jennifer Perez and newcomer Jowanne Burks-Jennings.
This means all three Democrats are essentially locks to win seats in November, backed by overwhelming party registration.
Sokolovic returns to Plan B, as he did in 2021, to win another four-year term. He is seeking placement on the Bridgeport Independent Party line in November that elevated Willie Medina to a school board seat in 2023. To win another term on that line, Sokolovic must defeat one of the two Republicans nominated, Akisha Cassermere and David Gelin. State law requires minor party representation on school boards, so three of the nine seats must be of that status.
Only two Democratic primaries for City Council will take place, the 138th District where incumbent Maria Pereira and Keyla Medina, wife of Willie Medina, are challenging party endorsed City Councilwoman Samia Suliman and District Leader Kevin Monks. Two years ago, Pereira lost the walk-in vote but prevailed via absentee ballots that attracted interest of state authorities charging her criminally with election violations she denies.
Pereira and Suliman, once allies, have been on the outs for years. Pereira has a long history of political divorces so we’ll see how long this alliance, or perhaps distant alliance, with Medina lasts. Two years ago Pereira and Jazmarie Melendez ran, and won, together. A few months later they, too, had a political divorce. Melendez resigned from the council several months ago. She was replaced by Suliman.
Both Suliman and Medina are residents of Success Village that avail them close proximity to a crop of voters in the JFK voting precinct.
The sweet spot for Monks and Pereira is the Hooker precinct. Based on the latest registration numbers the Upper East Side 138th District is the largest among the 10 city districts.
The East Side 137th District will also feature a primary where council president Aidee Nieves and incumbent Maria Valle have been popular for years. Ishmael Sanchez and Isaac Dickerson successfully petitioned onto the ballot.
The lack of council primaries frees up party regulars to focus on those two districts so expect an army in the 138th District where Pereira is anathema. She doesn’t like them and they don’t like her. Despite the election law charges, Pereira does not appear deterred to hustle absentee ballot votes.
She is circulating a heavy amount of absentee ballot applications in her district, based on information from the Town Clerk’s Office.

Way to stay alive, Pencil Box. 🤣
Speaking of writings utensils , here’s my thesis and final exam for the best ESL class ever.
Topic: Homelessness and “American’s Government’s Socialism and Capitalism wings of its Bald Eagle bird and the cause and effects of taxation and intervention spending 🙂
(Full Disclosure Click count and clips will apply. )
“Jesus, do you think when you speak, or write your shit. These words, writings don’t add up, people, SMH, 🙂

“My high school was a series of couches and comforters on the floor and making enough money to pay for the room for rent that I lived in until I graduated college,” Paradis said. “My parents … were living in their van, working five jobs between the two of them over four years to regain shelter.”
Ok, you worked, rented a room, and slept on a couch while you were away at college. Presumably. Clearly your parents were not “financially sound” enough to rent you your own apartment or place you in the college dorms. That’s a bit different than being/finding oneself homeless, regardless of the reason, I would think.
However, to say your parents lived in a van while working five jobs between them and it took them four years to get enough money to rent an apartment for themselves, defies all scientific, mathematical logic.
The implication is they chose to pay off their medical bills before finding an apartment? IDK people that shit is hard to swallow.
(Is it just me or does this “debate” on homelessness for government funds come off “disingenuous” as of the Breath of Fresh Air, Taste the Movement? To say the least ) 🙃
“This is an executive order that weaves together falsehoods and preys on fear of our neighbors and our communities,” Paradis, executive director, said at a news conference Monday. “What we are talking about here today is people trying to survive.”
“Paradis was one of numerous Connecticut advocates and lawmakers to slam Trump’s executive order this week. Many noted that the president’s new approach sharply clashes with the “housing first” model widely believed to be most effective in addressing homelessness.”
Kara Capone, CEO of the Hartford-based Community Housing Advocates, said Connecticut stands to lose about $60 million in federal funding if the proposal becomes law “
(It would seem like y’all trying to save 60 million in federal funding which perhaps avoids layoffs, and potential homelessness, more than trying to save lives/help end homelessness. Ironic perhaps, or at least self-serving, on a level.
“In Connecticut and elsewhere, most advocates subscribe to the idea that the best way to address homelessness is to procure people permanent housing, where their new stability will allow them to focus on whatever other problems they might be facing.
Once they’re housed, the logic goes, they can find employment, create personal budgets and address any substance abuse issues.”
(While it sounds scientifically logical, housing first, there seems to be this coded side game for power/money/control y’all got going on, and one side has always been good with the words selling that pointed finger as pure, honest, righteousness, on a level 🙂
In the words of Tony Montana. “You need people like me so you can point your finger at and say, “that’s the bad guy”. Does that make you good? No, you are not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie.
Tony M. doesn’t have that problem because that finger you are pointing labels him under the “dictatorship”, So he doesn’t need to be good with the words. Unless he has been indicted on AB fraud in the Port’s political sphere. 🙂
Unlike the oligarchies’ finger pointers, who guise themselves under the labeled “Democracy” who perfected the art of persuasion/words for their ill intent for the base minimum/survival to win the majority over to rule/control/dictate. They lie like a rug, all the time, not just when indicted on AB fraud. 🙂
Just a theory thesis, people, for entertainment purposes, perhaps 🙂
What say you Tony M, what comes first?

But how effective, true and sincere are the efforts to address the epidemic, systemic homelessness, devaluation of affordable housing , or should I say the elevation?. While there are vicarious reasons for someone to end up homeless, be it drugs/mental illness, employment/financial, DV, or affordability/supply, depending on one’s coded side preference/identifying where both sides contributes , fosters, thrives, and prospers from the homelessness/drug addicts/mental illness. In their own ways. Yet it seems solving the problem revolves around treatments not eliminating, or seeking a curing, in their own guile “disingenuous” ways
By no means am I saying housing is not extremely important or the first step, however there needs to be an equal emphasis on employment/finance to have any meaningful way to achieve financial independence and have an impact.
That being said, while housing is essential as the first step, and if that tandem step of finance is not provided, achieved or it falls by the wayside what you are left with is the government/taxpayers footing the bill for any long term permanent housing. With solving the underline issue why they ended up on the streets you will have a revolving door to homelessness/drug uses, No ?
When continuous the philosophy is “pay your fair share” perhaps solving the problem/cure the goal/coded side selling point and treatment may come off as disingenuous in nature.
To be fair, when the coded side of the “invisible hand” doesn’t provide the financial means for such independence or a decay of the quality of life because of the deadly sin of Greed rears its head. That too comes off as disingenuous in nature. Thus you have your battle of good and Evil, perhaps angels and demons. What coded side do you identify when your lies and falsehood rears it coded side head, angels of demons? Questioning of AB fraud do-not-apply, plead the 5th, people. 🙂
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynfBVm70a-0
Personally speaking, over the course of this existence in that battle, housing has been used as a weapon, a tool of means. As well as, employment/finance, or lack of. Perhaps even, medical/health.
It’s hard to say what efforts, lengths are at play when it hides passively behind closed doors marked as good intentions. Lead by lies and disingenuousness. Characterizes, as, hooray for my coded side, my prophet, my God, my philosophy, my science, my nature. Depending on the severity of its effects, a desired outcome, whispers, are at play in this game, for better or worse, angels and demons.
In my adult existence I found myself lacking employment “quite” a few times, in the court system, homelessness a few times, to say the least. Just for trying to go back to school to learn how to read and write-ish, 🙂 Guided by my physical inability to labor, coupled with its treatments and the lies that accompanied it,
To be fair finance/employment or lack of was/is always a slow and steady pace 🙂. If coded side/identity, is present that identity/coded side produced 30 plus years, pace, Perhaps a bit longer, to the dog days of summer. To say the least.
If an average 10k a year during that 30 years plus period to live off of would be an over statement. In fact, the only time I was allowed/fostered to have funding money came with a caveat of prison.

To be fair, perhaps there were some seen and unseen guiding forces at WORK too. Where the angels and demons whispers battle it out to be the pirate of the ship.

For better or worse, sometimes you need take that chance to get those needed funds, Good times, people.🤣
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBN77CM3aow
To be fair, who really knows the seen or the unseen. It’s hard to say sometimes, the who, the how, or the what efforts are at work. What to be grateful for, what guiding force is seen and unseen, for better or worse, the good or the evil,, the us, the we, that’s .beyond the coded side game y’all got going on here. Where the lies starts and the truth end .The genuine, the disingenuous weave in and out, prevalent, and pervasively.

Thank God for OIB, the best ESL Class ever, John, ? 🙂 While I was able to get an associate at HCC, I can assure you OIB had more of an impact than all those years/efforts at HCC/NCC. You know Packet Classes In all, 🤣
As well as the psychological mind F of homelessness/finances or lack of, to name a few works, to say the least,
Did you know Christ was a Jew? 🙃

So it’s agreeable housing, a place to rest your head, a sense of peace of mind or should I say first in the check list when trying to get one’s life together, without it it becomes increasingly harder to achieve anything but. However,If you truly care, housing and employment has to go hand and hand to achieve the true desired goal. While housing is first, employment/finance needs to be right behind and to resolve the issues that got them there in the FIRST PLACE. No?
Perhaps that’s where it falls apart, and such “executive orders” because employment/finance and, or, the underlying issues that got them there are not applied or emphasized enough to make a real difference. I mean while housing is first it is also the easiest, it is just funding.
Perhaps by design if the goal/mind set is to just have the government pay for it perpetually. It sounds like a socialist/communist point of view, because it is, No?

“It calls for redirecting funds away from “harm reduction” initiatives, which may allow for substance use in a controlled environment.”
(Control environment? Jesus people. Does anybody think a person whose substance abuse has gotten to the point of being homeless that gives them a safe place to use is a sincere effort to get their life back on track and roof over their head, without government funded shelter and drug use perpetually?
How about involuntary/volunarry housingg/treatment programs? Anything getting clean would be the first step in getting their life back. because if they are not they are never going to pay for their own rent before getting their fix, No?
Common sense people. If they are homeless because of substance abuse, Well I would have to say it is getting cleaner first than housing, well tandem, in a sense. . You know, fix the thing that got them homeless in the first place SMH.
To quote Chris, Rock “I don’t have a drug problem because I can afford it”
Though, perhaps it won’t be disingenuous to say others look to capitalize on the “war on drugs” and get in on the action for their pound of flesh.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JiUYGKsm4Q8
(This is the only honest thing I read, IMO Perhaps, 🙂 I mean I don’t know the actual fact regarding why people find themself homeless in CT, but I would say there’s a sense of truth regarding Affordability/supply creating a poorer standard of quality of life when most of your working income goes to rent and bills. Though, perhaps an increase for the Capitalist landlords. Who has an incentive to keep the supply low, and rent higher, jacked up, No?
“Amber Freeman, an official with the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, said the Trump administration’s strategy for addressing homelessness ignores the true reason people in Connecticut and elsewhere wind up homeless: They simply can’t afford housing.
“Homelessness in Connecticut is not caused by crime or illness,” Freeman said. “It’s driven by poverty, systemic inequities and an extreme lack of affordability.”
IMO, the Federal government needs to hold states more accountable in their own finances/accountability to affordability and the quality and standard of living. First by the free market/capitalism and then by socialism. To keep check and balance and provide the standard of living for its residents, As that game plays out between capitalism and socialism. Intervene when the socialist mind-set and capitalist mind-set cause America/Americans cites, the standard of living a decline. Ironic in some ways. Both are creating and looking to gain from the lack of housing supply. JS
(We can debate “inequities” but it is fair to say when you work a full time job and can’t afford to pay your rent and necessary bills the needs, with no disposable income to enjoy the wants such inequities are debatable.
But then again I read somewhere about whose parents lived in a van, who worked five jobs between them, for 4 years before they could afford a place of their own.
I am definitely not a mathematician/accountant, and John L knows I’m not an English major. but some shit not adding up to people. 🤣

Regarding this homeless debate, this location on Cherry St is ideal to generate a larger affordable complex, and a few other lots nearby. Yet you see no real push for any privately or governmentally apparatus. No Port’s elected officials taking on the issue head on, hands on approach. Yet we got camera on buses. They Ds tend to be more vocal in the socialism approach to expand affordable housing is to have more affluent towns, build affordable housing/as a devaluation in the guise of equality than creating/increasing the housing supply and affordably housing in location like this.
With regard to real homelessness where people are sleeping in tents or on the streets, particularly adult single people, drugs use/mental illness as the cause. I would think having a tier levels system approach working together, Short term housing of 6/12 mounts to get a person shit together and employed,, If successful get finding them long term housing through various means. Like the ‘non-profit’ taking over the old Holiday Inn should be a given, with the proper supply and demand, No?
Get Hud/state funding for the physically disabled who can’t work, I would think.
For immediate homelessness, people who are sleeping in tents or on the streets. First ban that shit. Two create/build a facility in ”proper location” perhaps by the bus line give them a free pass where they have a room/bed for the night, they have to be out in the morning, have the facility equipped with cart size lockers for their stuff for long term storage, showers and washer and driers to use. As well as other practical support functions, Port is not short of churches, pastors, and religious groups. Provide daily meals. As well all the support and service to them back on their own and in long term housing . Rinse and repeal for those who fail to address/fix the underlying cause.
Though perhaps a different set-up for homeless adults with kids. Though I am sure there are enough smart people in the room to put something meaningful, practical, and sincere, if the game allows. It is not rocket science people. You’re not going to Mar. just some thoughts, peace out. 🙂
Full disclosure, this ESL Thesis is entertainment purpose only, but the truth is out there, people, Good luck Port/people 🙂
