From Mayor Finch:
Mayor Finch to Kickoff City’s New Residential Rehabilitation Loan Program
WHAT: On Tuesday, October 25 at 6 p.m., Mayor Bill Finch and members of the Community Development staff will host an information session at City Hall Annex to kickoff the City of Bridgeport’s Residential Rehabilitation Loan Program. Through this program, qualified property owners may be eligible to borrow up to $10,000 for repairs to a single family home or $15,000 to multi-family homes.
This loan program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that is administered by the City of Bridgeport.
Property owners interested in participating in the program are required to submit an application form, occupant data sheet and proof of income, all of which can be found online at www.bridgeportct.gov/CentralGrantsCommunityDevelopment/Pages/HOUSINGREHABILITATIONLOANPROGRAM.aspx, to the City of Bridgeport’s Community Development Office. Homeowners seeking more information on this program can call (203) 394-6981.
Attendance at the information session is not mandatory, however, it is highly encouraged.
WHERE: City Hall Annex, 999 Broad Street, Bridgeport CT
WHEN: Tuesday, October 25 at 6 p.m.
It’s election season, can’t ya tell?!?!
Yes, it is election season and everything gets hyped, though this program likely does not feature $500 signs, as does Annex Park. (By the way has anyone had a picnic at Annex Park, or done anything parklike there?)
This is a regular program available through HUD for homes in low-income neighborhoods/census tracks. My opinion for whatever it is worth: why don’t City promotion materials indicate the total funding is limited to 15 to 20 owners? Federal funds, vetted by Citizens Union and then by City Council that makes final allocations but to most in this City it will probably seem Mayor Finch is doing this out of his own pocket. If anyone attends, will you let us know if there is any food or beverages present? I believe those would be provided by property taxpayers rather than Federal Income taxpayers. Some day we’ll see where all of the money is spent and from whence it comes in one place during a budget year. What a concept. Time will tell.
