Mike Freddino was a prince among city politicians. Great sense of humor, family man, union officer and West Side Democratic leader.

Michael “Mike” D. Freddino Jr. died peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026 after a brief illness. Mike was born to Michael D. and Helen Spetrino Freddino on December 28, 1940 in Bridgeport, CT and was a life-long Bridgeport resident.
Mike graduated from St. Augustine Elementary School and Fairfield College Preparatory School, class of 1958. He was the owner and operator of the Buy-Rite Supermarket on East Main Street in Bridgeport for over 25 years. Mike then worked as a Housing Code Inspector for the City of Bridgeport Health Department. For over 30 years, he was Vice President of N.A.G.E. and was a Democratic Town Committee Member for Bridgeport.
Mike looked forward to every spring for baseball season to watch his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara Ceccarelli Freddino and their son Michael D. Freddino III (Seth Glassman) and daughter Julie Freddino (Chris Snyder), son-in-law F. Edward Nicolas, grandson Francis Edward Nicolas III and granddaughter Sara Freddino Nicolas, and aunt and several cousins and was predeceased by their daughter Janice M. Freddino.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Northeast 10 at Bridgeport Hospital for the excellent care and comfort they provided.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11:00 am in Saint Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 79 Church St., Bridgeport, CT followed by a Catholic interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit the family on Friday morning from 9:00 – 10:30 am in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
