South End District Leader Mitch Robles has been given a pass from the office of Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill for not disclosing felony drug convictions on his application renewal as a notary public. From Jon Lender, Hartford Courant:
Democratic Secretary of the State Denise Merrill’s office allowed Mitchell Robles, a longtime district leader on Bridgeport’s Democratic Town Committee, to keep his privileges as a notary public in 2011 despite failing to list felony drug convictions, as required, on his original 1988 application and four renewal applications.
Several other people have lost their privileges as notaries–state officers who preserve the integrity of legal transactions by certifying that documents are signed and dated correctly–after they failed to disclose less-extensive criminal records than Robles on their applications, state records show. One had his license revoked involuntarily, and several agreed to surrender their privileges after the state initiated revocation proceedings.
But Robles wrote a letter to a Merrill staff lawyer, apologizing and mentioning that “I am currently a member of the Bridgeport democratic town committee, a district leader, vice chairman of the democratic party of Bridgeport,” and an elected city sheriff in Bridgeport.

More pandering by the Democratic power base.
I’m voting for the Republican running for Secretary of the State, whomever it might be.
Cut out the crap, Denise. Unbe-fucking-lievable.
Of course you are voting Republican, Bob. After all, you are a closet Republican.
Fairfield leader Peter Lamaj has my vote for Sec of the State!
You can’t make this stuff up and who is going to challenge him for district leader? I see he didn’t mention anything about his employment, his church, community groups, no, just what he’s doing for Democrats. I believe in a second chance but this? Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill has failed the voters.
Ron, are you still voting for Ezequiel Santiago?
Me too, donj. Another example for TERM LIMITS on every level.
To be fair, hope, this is Merrill’s first term as SOTS. She probably learned everything she knew from her predecessor Susan Bysiewicz–’nuff said.
Full disclosure: Around 1994 or 1995 I applied for Notary Public privileges. I don’t remember question 10 or how I answered the question. Was Joel Gonzalez capable of lying to acquire a privilege he could live with or without? Here is an opportunity for Godiva2011 to catch Speedy with his pants down. Will someone say FOI, Speedy?
Joel–a moot point at best. Another attempt here to divert the subject to yourself. And the last thing on this earth I would ever want to do is catch you with your pants down.
You folks still have a chance to volunteer at any of the four schools where the State Representative hand-picked by Mitch Robles will be facing Speedy. You can send a message to all three–Mitch, Ezequiel and Denise; or MED, as in take your med.
Joel–Volunteering for you is the moment everyone’s been waiting for. I’m sure there will be throngs of supporters just for you.
After further review, I think it is time for the people of Bridgeport, especially the OIB group, to vote Republican. I have observed for the last 6-8 months and nothing positive, for the most part, has been said about City hall or the City in general.
