Mayor Joe Ganim and Bridgeport Animal Control Officer Jennifer Wallace joined radio personality Raven of Star 99.9 FM to kick off the 2nd annual ‘Howl-o-ween Spooktacular’ Pet Festival and Adoption event to benefit Bridgeport Animal Control. The event will take place on Saturday October 29, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Bridgeport Animal Control Shelter located at 236 Evergreen Street in Bridgeport. The event will be broadcast live on STAR 99.9 FM with radio personality Raven and will feature fun for families including: pet adoptions, raffles, costume contests, food from Fire Engine Pizza Company, a pet parade and a live K-9 demonstration by the Bridgeport Police Department. All proceeds generated will go benefit the fundraising effort for Bridgeport Animal Control’s outdoor play area project. “This will be a fun program for kids and families and hopefully some of our wonderful dogs and cats can find a new loving home,” said Mayor Joe Ganim, who recently adopted the dog “Duke” from the animal shelter. “We have many wonderful furry companions in need of a home who could make wonderful additions to your family and I encourage everyone to join us for this free event. We are also looking to raise funds so we can build a real outdoor play area so the dogs can run around outside and get good recreation while they await adoption.”
Bridgeport Animal Control is the largest municipal animal shelter in the state of Connecticut with the capacity to hold 80 dogs and 50 cats. Within the last year the shelter has greatly improved the quality of life of the animals. In the last year, BAC impounded a total of 1,248 animals including dogs, cats and wildlife. During this same time period BCA found new homes for nearly 600 dogs and cats, in addition to more than 400 turtles that were also adopted. BAC is now accepting applications for the dog walking program.
