Mayor Finch to Celebrate City’s Cultural Diversity, Industrial History with Weekend’s Events

Mayor Bill Finch’s schedule this weekend is full of events that celebrate Bridgeport’s cultural diversity and industrial history.

On Saturday, Aug. 13:

11:30 a.m. – Washington Park – National Day of Prayer Event for the City of Bridgeport, children and families, soldiers, and firefighters

1 p.m. – Iglesia Cristiana Renacer, 579 Clinton Ave – Community Health Fair 2011 “Healing the Nations/Sanando Las Naciones”

2 p.m. – McLevy Green – West Indian Association of Greater Bridgeport’s 5th Annual Caribbean Jerk Fest at McLevy Green

4 p.m. – Seaside Park — Trinidad and Tobago Association of Bridgeport Annual Cultural Festival and Family Day

On Sunday, Aug. 14:

The First in Flight Festival at The Discovery Museum and Veterans Park begins at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting for the Park City Disc Golf Course located behind the Discovery Museum in Veterans Park.

At 11 a.m., the Mayor will take part in the First in Flight Festival at the Discovery Museum, 4450 Park Avenue, Bridgeport CT, honoring the 110th anniversary of Gustave Whitehead’s unassisted flight of a powered aircraft. As part of the festivities, Mayor Finch will teleconference live with Burgermeister Herr Siegfried Hess, the Mayor of Whitehead’s hometown – Leutershausen, Bavaria, Germany, and representatives of the Gustave Whitehead Museum.

The festival runs from 11 to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Discovery Museum and includes a tribute the Sikorsky helicopter and the Frisbee. Admission is FREE to Bridgeport: First in Flight and to The Discovery Museum.
