A campaign staffer for Democratic mayoral candidate Mary-Jane Foster has amended a complaint with the city Ethics Commission regarding Mayor Bill Finch’s relationship with a political action committee. In a news release the Foster campaign also declares that on Monday it “will file an amended complaint with the State Elections Enforcement Commission with new and shocking revelations.” From Foster:
Amended Ethics Complaint Filed Against Mayor; New Charges to Come Monday
Tom Kelly, a supporter of Democratic candidate for mayor Mary-Jane Foster, filed an amended complaint today with the City of Bridgeport Ethics Commission against Mayor Finch, Atty. William Beccaro, and the mayor’s Chief of Staff Adam Wood, and Wood’s wife, Kerri. The amended complaint requests the following:
1) An expedited probable cause hearing to be conducted prior to the primary on September 13, 2011, due to the nature of the complaint and the possibility that funds are still available to be funneled to the candidates and others at the discretion of Mr. Beccaro.
2) A media report (Connecticut Post, August 4, 2011 attached) indicates that Mr. Beccaro had his mother named as Committee Chair without her knowledge, further obfuscating the direct tie between him as City contractor and funds being given to his employer/boss Mayor Bill Finch, his wife Sonya Finch, Chief of Staff Adam Wood, and his wife, Kerri Wood.
3) That the Ethics Commission find that the City should immediately suspend the contract with Mr. Beccaro until a full probable cause and ethics hearing are conducted.
4) That the Ethics Commission establish rules and oversight of the City Attorney’s office and the manner in which it unilaterally hands out contracts as Mr. Beccaro’s hiring was approved solely by the city attorney with no bidding process.
Earlier this month, Kelly filed a complaint detailing numerous Code of Ethics violations resulting from conflicts of interest that exist between Mayor Finch and his outside legal counsel William Beccaro, who also happens to be both the treasurer of People for Excellence in Government, the mayor’s PAC, and the attorney to the Connecticut Senate Democrats. The complaint also outlined the improper financial benefit Mayor Finch, Beccaro, the mayor’s wife Sonya, the mayor’s Chief of Staff Adam Wood, and Wood’s wife, Kerri, have received from the PAC since 2007.
On Monday, the Foster campaign will file an amended complaint with the State Elections Enforcment Commission with new and shocking revelations.
