At approximately 4 p.m. Monday roughly 500 people lined up outside the door to Democratic Headquarters on Wood Avenue waiting for tickets for a chance to see President Obama’s Wednesday night appearance at Central High School on behalf of Governor Dan Malloy. Tickets, one per person, were also being distributed from a headquarters on East Main Street starting at 3 p.m.

Central High School is expected to accommodate a little over 2000 people for the Democratic rally so it’s likely people will be turned away. Four years ago roughly 9000 supporters filled the Webster Bank Arena during an appearance by the president for Democratic candidates. Maybe they need a bigger boat.

More from CT Post:

Word spread quickly of President Barack Obama’s Wednesday visit to Bridgeport, and supporters from across Connecticut made their way to the city Monday to pick up coveted tickets to the event.

Jimmy McMikle, 43, of Windsor, was in line at the Democratic headquarters on East Main Street, with his daughter Logan, 8, and his son, Miles, 10.

“It took about an hour to get down here,” he said. “We thought it would be a great opportunity for the kids to see the president and to give them some exposure to the responsibility we have as Americans to become involved the political process. It’s a chance that we couldn’t let them miss.”

    1. No, the name of the political party is not the Democrat Party. That is term that is used as a slur, just like calling Tea Party members Tea Baggers is intended as a slur.

  1. I got my ticket at Andres Ayala headquarters. The lines were outrageous at 2:30, I originally went to Marilyn Moore headquarters to get a sign, the lines were long there at 2:15. East Main Street had lines wrapped around Pennsylvania Ave. So much for anti-Obama sentiment. It is a shame they only had 1500 tickets to pass out. They were very efficient and everybody was in a great mood.

  2. Marilyn Moore was glad-handing a very friendly crowd, just like a pro. Auden Grogins and John Stafstrom showed up looking for some ice, it looked like they were drinking something out of the same brown paper bag.
I think Marilyn’s coattails will be long enough to pull Malloy to victory in Bridgeport.
If she out-polls Malloy in November, we may be looking at our next Mayor, and she can still hold her seat in Hartford. Time will tell.

        1. Lennie, I played Simon Says!
Simon Says, Everyone touch your nose!
          Simon Says, Everyone bend over!
Simon Says, Everyone to the back of the line!
And that’s how I got my ticket.

  3. Central High School is a huge mistake. Why not the Arena? As many people who are in line and pissed will equal the number of people who didn’t even bother and are pissed. Open the Arena and everyone is happy and everyone turns out their neighbor’s votes. This is so dumb it is hard to fathom. Really dumb. And I want these people to win, thank God I’m not working against them.

  4. 2000+ in that gymnasium? No thank you,I’ve been to a few basketball games there over the years, even when there is 500-600 people in there, it gets stuffy and hot, I can’t imagine how it would be with 2000 stuffed in there, not to mention you have to be in the gym two hours early, it will be a nightmare.

    1. Well Bob, I have offered to put a Marilyn Moore sign on my lawn at least three times on this blog. I am certain they must have run out of signs. Makes it easier to mow my lawn. I do have a Malloy sign arriving this week.

      1. Jimfox, I am just offering to help. Everyone knows a sign on the lawn is a gross inconvenience, it looks trashy, it pisses off neighbors who do not agree with your candidate and it makes mowing the lawn a chore. If a candidate does not want to take advantage of this opportunity it is their loss. I am not being paid for advertising a candidate on my lawn.
