From Doing It Local:
Governor Ned Lamont visited Bridgeport Friday morning to highlight new data from the United States Census Bureau showing that Connecticut leads the nation in growth of new housing permits. The announcement was made during a news conference at Waltersville Commons alongside Seila Mosquera-Bruno, local officials, housing advocates, and Bridgeport property owner Juan Hernandez.
Mosquera-Bruno said the new data shows Connecticut is making progress in addressing the state’s housing shortage.
“Connecticut is leading the nation in housing permit growth,” Mosquera-Bruno said. “That is an important signal that our state is moving in the right direction when it comes to addressing our housing needs.”
Bridgeport property owner Juan Hernandez also spoke during the event, sharing the long personal history behind the project at Waltersville Commons. Hernandez said he has been thinking about developing housing in the area for decades.
“I’ve been planning this project since 1962,” Hernandez said. “This building here was my first job back in 1964. I kept looking at the outside window and saying someday that block is going to be mine and someday I’m going to put housing here for the people of Bridgeport.”
Lamont said the increase in housing permits reflects strong demand for living in Connecticut, noting the state has issued significantly more permits than some neighboring states.
“Connecticut led the nation in new housing permits. That’s a big deal,” Lamont said. “It’s about twice as much as Massachusetts and about three times more than New York.”
The governor said increasing the housing supply is one of the most important steps toward improving affordability.
“When we talk about affordability, the biggest factor is often the price of housing,” Lamont said. “More housing will bring down the cost. More affordable housing and more supportive housing will bring down the cost.”
State officials said Connecticut has issued more new building permits this year than it has in roughly the past two decades. Lamont said the state is also working to speed up the permitting process and expand housing subsidies to encourage more development.
During the news conference, Mosquera-Bruno explained that housing is generally considered affordable when residents spend about 30 percent of their income on rent or housing costs.
“Affordable housing is when someone can pay their rent with about 30 percent of their income,” she said.
Lamont also pointed to migration into Connecticut as one of the reasons demand for housing remains strong. He said many people began moving into the state after the COVID-19 pandemic and that trend has continued.
“People want to be here,” Lamont said. “Developers recognize that there has been overbuilding in some parts of the country, but not here. We still have some catching up to do.”
State officials said their goal is to continue increasing housing options across Connecticut while ensuring cities like Bridgeport remain affordable places for future generations.
“We’re doing everything we can to make sure your kids and grandkids can call Bridgeport home,” Lamont said.

Next time you’re in Bridgeport, I expect you to come see us here in the West Side 130th, Not Black Rock like you’ve done every election cycles the State Reps aren’t the only leaders here. If you can meet and deal with Maria Pereira, you have ZERO excuse. You may even get to meet The Headless Speedy, Director of Absentee Ballots in all Bridgeport Cemetary. Otherwise. If you come to Bridgeport, you got 24 minutes to get out of Bridgeport. Comprendes, Governador Ned Lamont? Senator Sujata has my number. Then again, the State Police may just have a file on me.
“…Connecticut leads the nation in growth of new housing permits. The announcement was made during a news conference at Waltersville Commons alongside Seila Mosquera-Bruno, local officials, housing advocates, and Bridgeport property owner Juan Hernandez…”
Ned Lamont, did you look into the extremely high cost of Building Permits in Bridgeport? You have no clue how close you’ve been to people who haven’t payed for Building Permits for years? Juan Hernandez isn’t just a property owner. He is a member of the Democrartic Town Committee 137th district. He doesn’t reside in the 137th. He has residential and commercial properties. Have your State Police get the addresses of the residential properties and see how many Blacks folks you find, heck allow ICE to visit them.
Commercial properties? I’m surprised he didn’t kick you out of the East Side. You Lamont rejected the Soccer Stadium his State Reps pushed so hard for. Did ask Juan Hernandez if he owns any land of buildings on the proposed sites? Yes, he does! and originaly had hopes of converting it into affordable (to him) housing.
Now look, he’s next to you, just a property owner. Ned Lamont, you’ve caught quite a few fleas up in Hartford the past few years. You sleep or walk with dogs, especially from the Bridgeport Plantation, you’ll get what you looked for. Speedy has no fleas. Bald is beautiful!
Bridgeport,
Leading the nation in housing permits, report from Governor Lamont highlights?
How many permits, of a certain kind, does it take to lead the nation, and over what period of time?
Who speaks regularly as a part of their vocational purpose about housing, of all types including “affordable” (that seems currently defined as a residence that fits within 30% of the income of folks living in a unit of housing) locally provides data that is accurate and regular?
The DTC led City Council has not followed through in restoring boards and commissions who operated with titles like FAIR Housing or FAIR Rent 20 years ago. Neither has the Mayor. And the majority of residents in Success Village had no governance group to turn to when their attempt at self-governing was not functioning as by-laws indicated.
Where is the entire story to be found, in an OPEN, ACCOUNTABLE, TRANSPARENT, and HONEST narrative? Who governs “housing” in Bridgeport? Anyone have the courage to step up and share the info with readers of OIB? Anyone dare to attend a Casual Civics Conversation and talk about the subject and others? March 21 at 8AM at Wood’d End Deli is the next meeting. Time will tell.
John, “How many permits, of a certain kind, does it take to lead the nation, and over what period of time?”
Three, perhaps over a five-day work period. 🙂
Speaking of numbers and code-sides. Is 28 a coded number associated with a coded side, people?
https://onlyinbridgeport.com/wordpress/mark-your-calendar-march-28-no-kings-demonstration/
I am assuming the 28 is a coded-side identifier to rally their coded-side troops, for various reasons. Based on the fact that No King is a coded-side movement against Trump, and the fact, in its essence, a rallying call/protest aimed at Trump, as a King, to protect criminal immigration into this country.
Is it fair to say, based on my previous theory, that this “disingenuous” coded-side game is a bit more than ‘disingenuous” politics, like throwing “someone” under the bus to win an election via press release/ media coverage?
Y’all “No King” supporter/coded-side are not just protesting the illegal immigration actions to call out illegal immigration and enforce America’s immigration law. But the plotting, planning, and execution of a girl’s elementary school being targeted as a means to support a religious supreme leader.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince (MBS) No!
Ayatollah, supreme leader, yeah!
I mean, I could be wrong about this “disingenuous” coded-side thing/theory. As well as everyone in G2 headquarters was on his side, doing everything in their power to see him return to the Port’s mayoral helm.
Though to be fair/honest, a few major key supports seem to be nowhere to be seen that night. JS

Speaking of codes, are Tuesdays and Thursdays code-side days?
I mean, according to Bob, they are not psychiatrists. 🤣
Butt, more importantly, people, it would seem one coded-side has 5 days, and the other coded-side has 2 days. Where’s the equality? 🤣

Apparently, illegally, Right “No King?” 🤣
John, always a pleasure. 🙂
Peace out, Port, can’t wait to smell the fragrant fumes of diesel while enjoying the day at your beach. Though I am not sure which coded -day I should go on. 🤣

Final Points on the current “No King” coded-side via Iran, Islamic per se.
https://www.foxnews.com/world/iranian-crown-prince-reza-pahlavi-announces-readiness-lead-irans-post-regime-transition
This doesn’t make sense. I mean, Iran has a democratic election system, per se. Just tweak the constitution, relegating religion (God of Gabriel) to the personal spiritual aspect of a person’s life with God if chosen to be. As it should be.
In essence, making Masoud Pezeshkiani the leader of the democratic republic of Iran.
It would seem that Kharg Island is a major asset for the financial Iran war machine. Taking it would seem like a tactical maneuver to gain leverage on the current regime to move away from the Islamic Supreme Leader to a presidential “disingenuous shit show, governance.
Cutting off their oil, bringing the fight to that island, would negate any media coverage of the Iraq/Afghanistan war.
I am sure they will not bomb their own oil depot infrastructure. If they chose to bomb their neighbor’s oil fields, the world should rally behind these causes. Give it back what the “negotiations/deal is struck. Really doesn’t seem that complicated and overly asking.
I mean, what are we really talking about?
A) recognize Israel as a state
B) Ensure the world sees the Palestinians get a homeland in Palestine (West Bank)
C) Stop aiding outside groups in other countries.
D) Import your Nuclear fuel for domestic energy
E) Religate Religion to a natural individual state with God, via presidential leadership.
I am sure that “disingenuous” shit show called governance is not going anywhere. Right people
What say you Gabriel 🙂

Wait, what? The main Islamic scripture in the Quran for women wearing the Hijab/covering is so that they wouldn’t be molested?
Is it anywhere in these writings that say, hey, fellas, don’t molest women, period?
As problematic and or debatable as the understanding of the words of God, which were given to the “prophets” that seemed to be unchangeable, as in the Quran. The hadith are not the word of God and are changeable nature to the word of God, via the Quran. JS
IDK, people, what say you?
