AFSCME Local 1522 that represents approximately 1,200 workers in Bridgeport, including employees at the Board of Education, Bridgeport Health Care and city government, has endorsed Dita Bhargava, Democratic candidate for state treasurer, in the August 14th primary. She faces party-endorsed Shawn Wooden.
“Dita understands public employees are hardworking people who pay taxes and deserve fair and equitable treatment,” said Sherrie Weller, President of AFSCME 1522, in a prepared statement. “I wholeheartedly endorse her candidacy and urge all of our members to vote for her on August 14th.”
“I’m honored to receive AFSCME Local 1522’s endorsement,” said Bhargava “Our next Treasurer must have the financial expertise to guide our pension system and make sure that our state government can live up to the promises it made to hardworking people. With 20 years of experience in the financial industry as an investment manager, I know I’m up to the job.”
