Three Bridgeport officials charged in an absentee ballot scandal appeared in state court Tuesday morning, with two of them rejected plea deals in their cases.
City Council member Alfredo Castillo and former Democratic Town Committee Vice Chair Wanda Geter-Pataky rejected plea offers from the prosecution and indicated they will take their cases to trial.
Castillo rejected an offer to serve 2½ years in prison, followed by 3 years of probation, with the possibility of up to 8 years behind bars if he were to violate the terms of his release. His case now will go to trial, with a potential sentence totaling 165 years behind bars.
Geter-Pataky also rejected an offer for a plea deal. The prosecution had offered her a sentence that would see her serve 3 years in prison followed by 3 years of probation, with the potential for up to 8 years in prison if she were to violate release conditions. Her case, too, is headed to trial, where the maximum potential sentence is 500 years.
A case brought against Maria Pereira, another City Council member, was continued.
