Mayor-elect Joe Ganim announced on Friday his transition taskforce will conduct public forums regarding six areas of public policy under review, the first Monday, 7 p.m. at Geraldine Johnson School, 1375 North Avenue at Lexington Avenue and Tuesday, 7 p.m. at Jettie Tisdale School, 250 Hollister Avenue.
The forums will include introductions by Ganim transition team committee leaders and then break into groups to discuss six areas of public policy under review, according to a media alert issued by Ganim. For more on the Ganim transition team, see here.

*** A great start no doubt to be able to pick the local neighborhood’s brains on what’s happening in that ‘hood and what is thought to be needed to make things better! Keeping an eye and ear on our local neighborhoods and staying in touch with the residents is much needed in order to make better city government decisions concerning the Park City! ***
I plan to attend and speak.
Does the task force have any ideas or approaches to issues in mind to put forth to the public?
They picked these folks to try to obtain the solutions and ideas, and identify potential exposures. Why doesn’t the task force go about the business of doing that? Why do they need to attempt to include activists and residents who bring some knowledge and experience to the table? I thought they were all set with that. Is a public forum necessary to provide the task force with a strategy for moving forward? It looks like they want the public to do the transition team’s job for them. Then why have a transition team? The endgame eludes my simple mind. I think I will wait this one out and see where we land in January.
Fayerweather Friend,
I hope you come and let your voice be heard tonight.
You are going Mr. Walker, and that is what is important. My voice, however, is not. Thank you in advance.
Fayweather Friend,
Everyone’s opinion matters.
No they don’t. It is really great you think that way, though. Don’t change.
I went tonight and provided comments. Mayor-Elect Ganim was there at the beginning and came over to say hello.
I participated in the Economic Development & Small Business group on Monday night led by Rina Bakalar. It was one of the most comprehensive, creative, exciting, and optimistic discussions I’ve had about opportunities and barriers in Bridgeport–all compressed into a 45-minute time frame. Bravo to the transition team and to the 20 or so people who elected to join the group.
For readers contemplating whether to turn out on Tuesday at Jettie Tisdale School, I recommend the experience. Other groups at the workshop focused on education, community services, public safety; I think those were the topics. All the groups presented pages and pages of ideas in the summary time.
Doug,
Don’t forget the accountability, governance and budget group. JML, I and others participated in that group. It was productive and worth the time. The real key is what will come of it. The McCarthy employee vs. Council issue will probably be the first public test.
I indeed forgot that and stand corrected! Good luck to the transition hearing participants tonight at Jettie Tidsdale. (Instead of yakking, I shall be SINGING tonight in an interfaith Thanksgiving service at Saugatuck Congregational Church over in Westport. This tenor wishes one and all many blessings, peace, gratitude and joy during the celebration of our uniquely New England holiday over the next few days, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales behavior notwithstanding. See you on the preinauguration flip side!)
