Ganim Signs Executive Order Limiting Local Police Access To ICE

Joined by members of the immigrant rights group Make the Road CT Mayor Joe Ganim on Tuesday signed an executive order in support of the Connecticut Trust Act that limits state and local enforcement cooperation with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency seeking to detain and deport undocumented immigrants.

In the video above members of Make the Road CT shared personal stories about harsh immigration policies under the Trump administration.

Among the provisions of the Trust Act passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Governor Ned Lamont effective October 1:

— prohibits law enforcement from detaining someone solely on the basis of a civil immigration detainer unless the person is guilty of the most serious felonies, is on the terrorist watch list, or a judicial warrant has been issued;

— limits law enforcement sharing with ICE; and

— requires law enforcement to inform an individual when ICE has requested their detention.

  1. Again, what a joke, here comes Johnny come lately again because he feels that it’s safe to stick his head of his shell because his friend 45, could be facing impeachment but where was Ganim when sanctuary City effort was put forward or when ICE was taking babies from their mothers, Ganim was a no show and silent, this is just another photo-op.

  2. Just another pandering publicity stunt.
    The ‘Trust Act’ was adopted by the State Legislature.
    Ganim’s ‘executive order’ has no bearing on the actions of the Bridgeport Police Department.
    The ‘Trust Act is law regardless of Ganim’s endorsement.

  3. I think the primary made Mayor Ganim think, feel and believe that he can longer depend on the Black community so he needs to capture the imagination of the Hispanic/Latino community to push him across the finish line. He’s worried and scrambling!

  4. Don, Ganim failure to act on making the City a sanctuary City and Ganim’s silence when ICE was taking babies from their mothers on the border but there was no push back from the Hispanic community. I must say that I am disappointment Hispanic leadership and the community Hispanic didn’t put up any candidate or candidates to run in the Democrat primary after knowing Ganim’s lack of concerns for their concerns and issues. Judge Carmen Lopez name was mention in the media and especially on OIB, I was one of those who wanted to Judge Lopez along with Marilyn Moore to run for mayor but Judge Lopez made the decision not to run. Don, you said this about Joe Ganim, “he can longer depend on the Black community so he needs to capture the imagination of the Hispanic/Latino community to push him across the finish line” but does the Hispanic/Latino community get for their support for Mayor Ganim, absolutely nothing again they got played by Mayor Ganim. Don, it was my understanding that the black leadership especially in the East End said that they were not going to support Senator Moore and they were not going to put a black candidate for mayor but instead they were going to support a Hispanic/Latino that never appear. Now even with Marilyn Moore’s mistakes and campaign failure Marilyn Moore still beat Joe Ganim at the voting polls and barely lost with AB’s. Don, it goes back to your original comment where you said, “I think the primary made Mayor Ganim think, feel and believe that he can longer depend on the Black community. “He’s Not Our King.”
