First Phase Of Significant Waterfront Development To Celebrate Grand Opening With Governor Lamont, Community Open House

Governor Ned Lamont, state & federal officials, Flaherty & Collins Properties, and the Steelpointe Harbor development team will celebrate the grand opening of The August at Steelpointe Harbor with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The state-of-the-art 420-unit waterfront community is the first residential phase of Steelpointe Harbor, one of the most significant redevelopment projects in Bridgeport’s history. The August includes 160 workforce housing units for households earning between 80% and 100% of Area Median Income—exceeding the development team’s workforce-housing commitment for the project’s initial phase.

Construction generated more than 453,900 labor hours and awarded over $41.8 million in contracts to minority, women, and small business enterprises, surpassing the project’s diversity contracting requirements. The development also supported local hiring, apprenticeship opportunities, and employment for members of the re-entry community.

The grand opening represents another major step in the continued transformation of Bridgeport’s waterfront. The Steelpointe Harbor master plan calls for approximately 1,500 residences, along with restaurants, retail, a commercial marina, hospitality, public amenities, and other waterfront uses. The August is located on a Steelpointe peninsula between the Yellow Mill Channel and the Pequonnock River with the Long Island Sound on its southern edge and I-95 and the city’s East Side to the north. It is an ideal location on Long Island Sound, positioned about an hour to Port Jefferson Long Island on the ferry and about an hour to New York City via Interstate-95 or the Metro North Railroad. The development is designed as a walkable, mixed-use community near Bridgeport’s commuter rail station, sports arena, and amphitheater.

The site also reflects Bridgeport’s long maritime and industrial history. Shipbuilding began along this waterfront in the early 1700s, and by the late 1800s the peninsula had become a center of commerce. The name “Steel Point” derives from the Bridgeport Steel Works that once operated there. After decades of preparation by the City of Bridgeport, the former industrial waterfront is being reborn as a new engine of housing, jobs, commerce, and public activity for Connecticut’s largest city.
