First Meeting Of Bridgeport “Back In The Day” Club

Main Street, Bridgeport
Main Street, Bridgeport.

From the Bridgeport Public Library:

Do you remember Pleasure Beach? Dancing at the Ritz Ball room? Did your mother or father go to work every day at one of the local factories like Bullard’s, Warner’s, or the Bridgeport Brass? Do you remember the Christmas lights of Downtown Bridgeport? The busy shopping on Main Street? Sitting at the counter at Woolworth’s and having a grilled cheese? Where did you buy your records?

Good Bridgeport memories need to be shared! 1980? 1950s? 1920? It’s all good!

The first meeting (Saturday) of the Bridgeport “Back in the Day” Club will meet on the third floor of the Bridgeport Public Library’s Bridgeport History Center.

Our first guest speaker is Bill Menosky who will give a short talk about the Remington Arms Company on Boston Avenue.

Discussion will then be open for “Back in the Day” Bridgeport Memories and other stories about Bridgeport.

Come share your memories! Bring your memorabilia to show!

The first meeting of the Bridgeport “Back in the Day” Nostalgia Club is:

Saturday, October 20th, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30, Third floor Bridgeport History Center, Bridgeport Public Library, 925 Broad Street 203 576-7417 … Mary K. Witkowski

  1. yahooy and Andrew Fardy remember it all. I remember the ’80s quite well. It reached a point people couldn’t or wouldn’t go to Lafayette Plaza. After graduating High School in 1984, it got really confusing out there. Does anyone remember Fardy’s number? Andy Fardy call me at 203-345-9597.

  2. Lennie, I’m looking at the picture above. Looks like someone stole the buildings where the Main Street court house and the Holiday Inn sit today–OIB one could expect that.

    1. The view is looking east on Fairfield Ave with Main Street crossing it right to left. The building on the right with the yellow brick is where Rite Aid was, and the building on the left across the street is where the courthouse is now.
The immediate building on the left is where the Holiday Inn is now.

  3. *** Slight correction there Bob, the view is looking “west” down Fairfield Ave., not “east”! If you were to turn around looking the opposite direction down Fairfield Ave. you would be looking at the railroad tracks and almost the Stratford Ave. bridge underpass headed once again, “east!” One’s sense of direction always seems to get a bit twisted after the third martini, no? *** HERE WE GO! ***
