Election Of President, Housing/Hotel Phase Of Steelpointe Harbor On City Council Agenda

City Council President Aidee Nieves.

A new-look City Council will kick off the municipal session on Monday with the first order of business election of the legislative leader. Aidee Nieves is expected to receive another two years as council president with a solid majority of votes, followed by appointment of standing committees.

A key agenda item is authorization of a tax incentive development agreement for the residential and hotel phase of Steelpointe Harbor along East Main Street and Stratford Avenue. It will be referred to the joint Committee on Economic and Community Development and Environment and Contracts.

Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase were among 32 financial firms that recently invested in a $48 million bond prepared by Steelpointe Harbor developer RCI Group for future construction phases such as hotel, health club and 300 market rate housing units. Groundbreaking is expected April 2022.

Developer Robert Christoph Jr. says the $48 million revenue bonds will provide the resources to commence construction of the housing towers and hotel. The ultimate plan for Steelpointe Harbor, he says, developing 1,700 residential units, 800,000 square feet of retail space, 200,000 square feet of commercial/office space, and a 130-room hotel overlooking the 220-slip marina.

Steelpointe Harbor is the home of Bass Pro Shops, Chipotle, T-Mobile, Starbucks, Bridgeport Harbor Marina, and Boca Oyster Bar. Christoph has also recruited Bridgeport Boatworks, Hornblower Group, and North Sails to Bridgeport Harbor at the former CarTech property on Seaview Ave.

“The bond sale supports our vision for Steelpointe Harbor in Bridgeport,” says Christoph,  president of RCI Group. “We look forward to the next couple of years as vertical construction continues, new businesses and new jobs are created, and the hotel and housing towers begin to welcome visitors and residents to a new live, work and play Connecticut waterfront neighborhood.”

      1. Actually, Lennie, I shopped the Saks in Greenwich for a holiday gift for my daughter about 10 days ago. I am old enough to remember when Saks a branch in my hometown, New Haven that only carried menswear (aimed at Yalies).
I have a savings account at Marcus-Goldman by Goldman Sachs (how could I resist banking with a Marcus?).
I carry a JP Morgan VISA Credit Card

You are the legislative body of the City and as such you are the gatekeeper who controls what of what gets pass You are not to be controled by the Democratic Town Committee and their chairman Mario Testa, the City Attorney or Mayor Ganim, they can advise you but your duty is to what is best for those who put you into office

One of the biggest vote the council will vote on is:

What is the city getting for those tax incentive, what will be breakdown the rent or purchasing price by income, what will be the racial breakdown of the occupancy the contractors and those are just a few questions that must be address. Do your job, ask questions and if don’t then find out and get answers. Tyler Mack and Aikeem Boyd base on their background and accomplishments need to be in the leadership.

  3. I understand how RCI Group (Christof) adds value to Steelpointe but I don’t understand how they take risk. Anyone can have a vision when armed with a tax break and a 48M bond but execution is the true success metric.
    Without struggle nothing is possible.
