New release from Mayor’s Office:
Mayor Ganim announces that the Connecticut E-bike rebate program has launched! To support the deployment of electric bikes (e-bikes) in CT, DEEP is providing rebates for e-bikes up to $500 (Voucher) and providing an additional $1000 rebate (Voucher+) if you live in an environmental justice community, are enrolled in public assistance programs, OR have an income 300% below the Federal Poverty level. This means Bridgeport residents are entitled to a voucher/rebate up to $1500 towards the purchase of a new electric bike during the ongoing electric bike sale.
Important to know:
- You MUST apply and get approved before purchasing your e-bike
- All Bridgeport residents over 18 are eligible to apply
- Your e-bike must be on the approved e-bike list and have a MSRP lower than $3,000
- Vouchers MUST be used within 90 days and at a participating e-bike retailer location
Steps to apply:
What you will need: Drivers license, CT Non-driver ID, or Utility bill within last three months (Proof of residency), documentation or membership card showing enrollment in public assistance programs within the past 12 months.
- Apply through this link, as soon as possible. Click “Get Started”
- When asked if you would like to apply for a Voucher+, select yes, and click the assistance program or select EJ community
- *If you select a public assistance program you will need to upload documentation
- **The City of Bridgeport is an environmental justice community so all residents fall under that eligibility criteria
- Read the program terms and conditions and click accept
- Now fill in your personal information, if you do not have a current driver’s license, select that option. If you have a CT Non-driver ID, enter the number, if not leave blank and you will be asked to provide a utility bill (within the last three months)
- Next upload a photo copy of your document showing proof of residency
- Your application will then be automatically submitted
- Review of applications will begin on June 28th, and Voucher+ applicants will be given first priority
Directions to shop:
The closest e-bike retailer is in New Haven, at 845 Chapel Street, the shop can be reached by taking the train from Downtown Bridgeport train station to the New Haven train station, and then walking (13 minutes) to 845 Chapel Street or by taking the 268, 271, or 272 bus to the shop (about 10 minutes)

Glad to see that Democrats at State and local levels are promoting this new program.
I went to see the message from the SUSTAINABILITY OFFICE and it directs me to take the train from Downtown Bridgeport to New Hven’s downtown. Why is that??
Is there no one aware of plans, programs, and funding packages of interest and applicable to residents. Did anyone tell OPED? They are the folks who originally set out our bike trail section s on Railroad Avenue. And who maintains the bright renderings near Beardsley Park, but almost indistinguishable elsewhere? Isn’t sustainable as a concept more about maintaining the status quo (before a disaster hits) rather than taking advantage of a mode of transportation (that may allow travel out of down when necessary)?
Why is there no pop-up ebike retailer in downtown Bridgeport willing to take a photo with G2? If history is a measure for the time lost from a G2 visit, it averages under ten minutes. Time will tell.
