Coming off his only television debate with Governor Ned Lamont (see related commentary here) in advance of the August 11 Democratic primary, with early walk-in voting commencing eight days prior, Hamden State Rep. Josh Elliott asserts his campaign will not coordinate a Line B strategy vote with Mark Bradley, candidate for judge of probate, under multiple investigations for election fraud including a criminal probe referred to state law enforcement officials.
In response to an email from OIB asking if there’s any coordinated effort between the two camps, Elliott responded: “Oh, definitely not.”
It’s common for respective opposition camps to incumbents to maximize operative focus on a line vote. In Bridgeport’s Democratic primary only two elected positions are showcased, governor and judge of probate.
Lamont leads Line A with incumbent Probate Judge Paul Ganim next to him.
Elliott heads Line B, followed by Bradley.
On Wednesday another complaint was lodged with the State Elections Enforcement Commission charging Bradley and his campaign with harvesting forged signatures to qualify for a Democratic primary, something validated by more than 30 sworn affidavits “establishing Bridgeport citizens and voters were told they could sign – or did sign – primary petitions for family members, friends, or significant others without those individuals’ knowledge” in violation of state law.

Hundreds of fraudulent signatures were counted as legitimate by local election officials in Bradley’s quest to challenge Ganim. Bradley needed validated signatures of five percent of registered Democrats to qualify for the ballot. Had those “tainted” signature sheets not been counted, Bradley would not have qualified for the ballot.

Already OIB has heard from senior citizens in Fireside and Augustana Homes on the Upper East Side about Mark Bradley and his operative City Councilman Alfredo, facing dozens of charge of state election fraud, telling vulnerable seniors to turn over their absentee ballots to them, in violation of state law.

What question is a priority for voters?
* Do we have enough information, free of negative slurs, to know who serves the responsibility of the Probate Court to the people of Bridgeport?
* Is the personal and political track record of each Probate candidate unblemished by ethical or legal concerns shared with the public?
* Do the issues by which gubernatorial candidates are raising differ in healthy discussion for voters to consider by informed voters?
Time will tell.
