Day Reporter: I’d Take Ganim Any Day Over The A-Grading Trumpists From Connecticut GOP

Mayor Joe Ganim has a high mountain to climb in his Runyonesque run for governor. Still, his retail skills intrigue some Connecticut political analysts including David Collins of the Day in New London who declares “I would take a rehabilitated Joe Ganim any day over the A-grading Trumpists from the Connecticut GOP. The head of their party, in prosecutorial cross hairs, is a long way from rehabilitation.”

From Collins:

During one media scramble with gubernatorial candidate Mayor Joe Ganim of Bridgeport, on one of his campaign stops this year, a reporter wanted to know if he knew of any other candidates to run for governor in the United States with as serious a felony record as his.

I haven’t really been interested in researching that, Ganim told the reporter, tossing in a dose of the wry humor he often uses deftly.

Indeed, Ganim, I learned after spending an hour with him during his visit to The Day’s Editorial Board this week, can marshal a winning combination of charm, persuasiveness, intellect and humor. He is in this respect an exceptional candidate, far and above any of the others in either party in this race.

… I know the Democratic establishment frets about Ganim’s criminal baggage if he ends up being the party’s nominee. But I wouldn’t worry about that.

All five Republican candidates, in a recent forum at Mohegan Sun, asked to grade their treasonous President Donald Trump, who refuses to protect the country from an ongoing attack by Russia, responded with a unanimous round of A’s.

I would take a rehabilitated Joe Ganim any day over the A-grading Trumpists from the Connecticut GOP. The head of their party, in prosecutorial cross hairs, is a long way from rehabilitation.

  1. I’m sure if Mr. Collins ask Joe Ganim to rate Donald Trump, he would give him an (A+) ,after all he had a major fundraiser at Trump Towers with Mayor Gulliani, and other GOP members.
I think Joe G. Is running on the wrong ticket.

    1. “…I learned after spending an hour with him during his visit to The Day’s Editorial Board this week…”

Okay, David Collins! How much time did you spend with Ned Lamont at The Day’s Editorial Board?

      1. Joe can’t make it, Joel. Why don’t you sit in for him? After all, you’re both mentally defective. Collins won’t know the difference.

        1. Yep, you’ve been drinking again. Joe Ganim did make it as you would have understood if you read the article while sober. What I’m trying to point out with my question is that if Ned Lemont wasn’t given an opportunity to sit with Collins and The Day’s Editorial Board, then Collins is biased.

  2. Politics, when you are a winner, promises power. Prison sentences usually do not. Ganim2 has twice as many years in political office as he did in prison but I would suggest that what the author from the New London Day refers to as “the winning combination of charm, persuasiveness, intellect and humor” continued to be honed behind bars. Since his release and pursuit of a second term as Bridgeport Mayor he has not shown the evidence of remorse, the practice of reaching out to all the people gathered at the table since he does not practice any form of active listening in the community, and the effect of his decisions have held 21,000 youth captive in a system which has no bars but since it should be operating as a trampoline to opportunity, were it funded reasonably, Ganim2 is failing. What might have been a time for deep soul searching has merely aged him and fired his course to self-aggrandizement. For those who preceded him who left a mess….no consequences. For those who are part of his administration and continue to mess up including Charter abuse…..no corrections and no consequences. For himself, life benefits that are bridged???For the voter and taxpayer….ignored except on election day. Is Ganim2 credible? Time will tell.

    1. John Marshall Lee, I am n total agreement with you especially where you wrote, “Since his release and pursuit of a second term as Bridgeport Mayor he has not shown the evidence of remorse” and “What might have been a time for deep soul searching has merely aged him and fired his course to self-aggrandizement.”

  3. I don’t want Joe Ganim, but like the writer of this post, I would take a rehabilitated, unrepentant, contritionless Joe Ganim over any of those Republican Trump clones.

Connecticut deserves better than those Republican 45 wanna be’s. That manifesto by Tim Herbst is proof enough that they embrace the ramblings of the fool they call 45.

  4. Ganim absolutely has “the winning combination of charm, persuasiveness, intellect and humor”. But he has proven to be all style and no substance. There is a lot of time between now an 8/14 and while he is the underdog, nobody should write him off. I could see Lamont pulling a Leon Lett.

  5. As a registered Republican in Bridgeport who has voted republican 2014 and 2016 I will not vote for any republicans 2018. Anyhow downtown Thursdays is a very nice event hundreds of people attended yesterday had a great time! It’s a good event for the city brings everybody together.

    1. Yes I’m a registered republican and voted that way the last 4 years but no more. Republicans will not stand up for what is right. Imagine if Obama said the things Trump has said. I voted for 45 but will not again.

      1. donj, you’re back, well a number of kept trying to tell you about the Republican Party and 45 but you made your decision to go another way. His background should had been enough for a young black man to understand. This could have been you.

In 1989, after these black and Latino teenagers from Harlem were accused of assaulting and raping a white woman in Central Park, Mr. Trump spent $85,000 placing full-page ads in the four daily papers in New York City, calling for the return of the death penalty.

“Muggers and murderers,” he wrote, “should be forced to suffer and, when they kill, they should be executed for their crimes.” Though he didn’t refer to the teenagers by name, it was clear to anyone in the city that he was referring to them.

Incredibly, 14 years after their sentences were vacated based on DNA evidence and the detailed and accurate confession of a serial rapist named Matias Reyes, Mr. Trump has doubled down.

To this day 45 will not admit that he was wrong.

  6. Joel, don’t be so hard on the young brother, he’s young, dumb and full of, well you know the rest.

    mis·guid·ed – adjective

    1. I think donj is smart. He was fair enough to give the Republican a chance. I’ve been there before too. Not only did I switch party, I served on the RTC and even ran for office as a Republican. There are well meaning Republicans. John McCain is the Republican I admire the most. I voted against Obama the first time he ran, voted for him the second time. Obama was the best President I’ve seen so far. I wasn’t being hard on donj, it was meant to tease him.
