The City Council’s Budget & Appropriations Committee Wednesday night is planning to finalize adjustments to Mayor Joe Ganim’s $605 million proposed spending plan for the fiscal year starting July 1. The budget holds the line on taxes.
The seven-member panel, led by Scott Burns and Ernie Newton, will convene 5:30 pm in Conference Rooms A, B & C of the Margaret Morton Government Center, 999 Broad Street. This could be a long night. Rocket fuel, please.
What happens at the committee level is generally adopted by the full council
The City Council must vote on the budget no later than May 10. The mayor then has two weeks to ponder a veto. If that occurs, it rarely does, the council has one week to respond.
The council sets the official mil rate as the final step to complete budget action.
