Cooling Centers Announced

From City Communications Director Av Harris

:

The Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center today is issuing an air quality control alert for the city of Bridgeport through 11:00 p.m. tonight due to hot and humid conditions, and excessive levels of ozone. Bridgeport residents and members of the public are encouraged to stay cool and hydrated during the day, and limit their exposure to hot and humid air outside, which could cause respiratory difficulties. In addition, all Bridgeport public library branches and senior centers as well as the Greater Bridgeport Transit Terminal will be open during the day as cooling centers for anyone in need during the extreme hot temperatures expected to impact the region for today.

“The extreme hot and humid weather that will keep temperatures in the 90s also brings with it poor air quality and we want everyone to stay as cool, hydrated and safe as possible,” said Mayor Ganim. “Cooling centers are open and anyone who needs them has a place to cool off during the day. Of course anyone feeling symptoms of heat stroke should immediately seek medical attention, and we will do whatever we can to help.”
